Local Students Win 'Celebrate Fairfax' Scholarships

A student from Thomas Jefferson is among this year's winners.

Representatives from Celebrate Fairfax, Inc., the 501(c)(3) nonprofit producer of the Celebrate Fairfax! Festival, have announced the winners of this year’s Community Spirit Scholarship Program - and a few Fairfax area students are on the list.

Representing each of Fairfax County’s Supervisory Districts, the recipients are recognized for "their outstanding contributions to the communities of Fairfax County," the nonprofit said in a press release.

Celebrate Fairfax’s Community Spirit Scholarship Program was launched last year to give back to the people of Fairfax County, with funding raised through the organization's Friends of Celebrate Fairfax initiative.

Ten $1,000 scholarships are awarded annually to graduating seniors in Fairfax County public high schools. One award recipient is chosen from each Fairfax County Supervisory District, and the final recipient is selected at-large from any one of the nine districts.

Recipients are recognized for their community involvement, academic accomplishments, extracurricular activities and demonstrated leadership, the organization said.

The scholarship awards will be presented at a special Celebrate Fairfax! Community Spirit Reception on Saturday, June 8 at the Celebrate Fairfax! Festival at the Fairfax County Government Center, 12000 Government Center Parkway in Fairfax.

The Celebrate Fairfax! Festival is coming up the weekend of June 7-9 at the Fairfax County Government Center. The annual festival hosts tens of thousands of visitors during its three-day run, with programs including a full carnival, eight stages of entertainment, national headliners, children’s activities, a crafts market and much more.
