McLean Community Players Sponsor High School Essay Contest

The group wants local high schoolers to open up about what they did last summer.

In case you were in denial, this week's weather has definitely confirmed that summer is officially over.

But the McLean Community Players are still in a summer state of mind.

The group will kick off their 2012-2013 season later this month with A. R. Gurney’s play What I Did Last Summer, but first, the group is sponsoring a high school essay contest for asking local students to write about "Last summer, ..."

The essays can be submitted by high school students ages 15-18. The top essay comes with a $200 prize and will be published on the McLean Communty Players website.

So write about that trip to New York or the long weekend your family spent at Rehoboth Beach. Did you go camping? Visit your grandparents? Maybe you traveled abroad or went on a mission trip? Write it up and write fast. The essays are due by 5 p.m. Monday.

For more details about the contest, visit the group's website.

What I Did Last Summer will open at the McLean Community Center’s Alden Theatre on Oct. 26 and will run through Nov. 4. Tickets are available online.
