Rain Forecast for McLean Graduation Day

Graduation guide for Langley and McLean

Big day tomorrow: the senior class at both Langley High School and McLean High School will graduate in back-to-back ceremonies at Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C. and weather forecast calls for rain.

The National Weather Service forecast for both McLean and Washington, D.C. says:  Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before noon, then showers and thunderstorms likely after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 75. South wind between 9 and 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Whatever the weather this is a huge day for  high school seniors --- and mom and dad. Here's your McLean graduation guide.

  •  Graduation: 10 a.m.  Thursday, June 16, 2011, in D.A.R. Constitution Hall.
  • Class Size:  504.  Seven out of the eight Ivy League Schools (excluding UPenn) will have a 2011 Langley graduate incoming as freshmen.
  • Speaker : Redskins General Manager Bruce Allen, a graduate of Langley. He is also son of Hall of Fame Coach George Allen and brother to former Governor and Senator George Allen. Bruce Allen has worked as a senior executive for the Oakland Raiders, in 2002 he won the George Young Executive of the Year Award, and as the general manager of the Tampa Buccaneers before coming to the Redskins.

  • Graduation:  2 p.m. Thursday, June 16 in D.A.R. Constitution Hall.
  • Class Size:  McLean will have 430 to 435.  MIT, Duke and the University of Virginia will all have  2011 McLean graduates incoming as freshmen. This year’s class has a special connection with their principal Dr. Deborah Jackson, who joined Mclean four years ago when this class entered as ninth graders. 
  • Speaker:  Leon Harris, news anchor for  WJLA-TV, Channell 7. Harris started as a video reporter for CNN where he won several Emmys for his coverage of 2000 Presidential Campaign and the 9/11 attacks. He became a local anchor in 2006 and won the local Emmy Award for Best Anchor.
