McLean High Wrestling Wins Warhawk Duals

The team will also compete against Langley High in an upcoming charity dual on Jan. 9.

The McLean Highlanders Wrestling Team started off the holiday break by participating in the Warhawk Duals at James Madison High School. Five Head-to-Head Dual meets with opposing schools.

The day started with the team giving up three forfeits out of 14 weight classes.

After the first three team victories against Stonewall Jackson High School and District Rivals James Madison and Thomas Jefferson High Schools, the team rallied to overcome an injury leading to a fourth forfeited weight class.

Another victory over Robert E. Lee High School put them into the final dual with then undefeated John Handley High School. After giving up 24 points in forfeits, the team was down 36-12 with six matches left and the Highlanders rallied, realizing victory was not out of reach.

They went on to win six consecutive matches. Four pins, and the final match of the day came down to a fourth overtime period in the 182 lb. weight class. McLean's Bryson Davis was victorious to win the dual 42-36 and the Warhawk Duals Championship for his team.

The team also recently won the Cavalier Classic Tournament and are busy promoting a charity dual with Langley High School, scheduled for Jan. 9.
