Patch Whiz Kid of the Week: Madeline Aubuchon

Accomplishment (s):

• Acts s Co-Leader of the Potomac School Community Service Club.
• Does a monthly school fundraiser that benefits numerous charities.
• Tutors elementary students at Herndon Resource Center - (Maddy had done this through all four years of high school!)
• Assists at dances for Alzheimers patients day care center.
• Actively participates and coordinates the Potomac School Christmas in April Project which consists of doing hands on home repairs for elderly home owners.

Madeline is a lovely blend of sweetness and gumption.  When she came across information about the work of Engineers Without Borders she knew she wanted to participate.  She called the Director, introduced herself, and offered to lend a hand over the summer.   Although she was young, they gratefully accepted her offer.  Her experiences and lessons there will no doubt serve to springboard her to the greatness that she is clearly destined for.

Key to Awesomeness:  

• Winner of 2011 McLean's Rotary Club's Youth Service Award. (Note - she stayed after the luncheon to help clear tables even though she was an honoree!)

• Interned at Engineers without Borders.
• Plans on using math and science to help people all over the world.
• Inspires hope and caring in everyone around her.

Motivation:   Madeline says doing good simply makes her feel good.  She is convinced that the smart use of technology can create simple to use solutions and provide great benefits throughout the planet.

Her giving began with David Grant, who greeted her every day by name, by her full name no less, and an invitation to join the Community Service Club.  After many invitations her curiosity got the best of her, and she attended a Service Club meeting.  The rest is history in the making!

Wisdom Earned:  It is amazing to see how little effort it takes to truly make a difference in the lives of others.
