Super Cooper Looper: McLean Seventh-Grader Sets Class Record [Photos]

Middle school hosted one-mile fun run on Wednesday.

Cooper Middle School in McLean hosted its second annual Super Cooper Looper after school on Wednesday afternoon.

The one-mile fun run was open to any seventh- or eighth-grader who wanted to participate and brought a winter coat or pair of sneakers to donate. The coats will be given to Cooper's sister school, Pine Spring Elementary in the Falls Church area. The shoes will be donated to Nike's Reuse-a-Shoe program, which melts down soles to build new playgrounds.

Langley High School cross country runners came out to help, according to Lindsay Bovenzi, a journalism teacher at Cooper.

“It was fun running because after practicing I managed to improve from my time last year,” eighth-grader Zoe DeTrani told her.

With a time of 6 minutes, 18 seconds, student Dylan Reed set a new record for the seventh grade, Bovenzi told Patch in an email.
