Whiz Kids: Appointments to Military Academies, More College Grads, Deans Listers

Military Academy Appointments. U.S. Rep. Frank Wolf (R-10th) has appointed the following McLean residents to U.S. military academies:

UNITED STATES NAVAL ACADEMY

The press release from Rep. Wolf's office explained that an advisory board interviews candidates for the military academies. That board recommends nominees. "The selection process is strictly a competitive one," said the press release.


Swim Honors.  Liz Holzapfel shares that the Wildthings, the swim team at The Langley Club, on Live Oak Road,  tied for first place in the Northern Virginia Swimming League's (NVSL) Division 5.

More McLean College Graduates. Thomas Diganci, DePaul University

McLean Students Making the Deans List for the Spring Semester. Purdue University: Suzanne Clark, Nathaniel Cherry, Alex Cho.

Miami University in Ohio: Frank Winston, Julia Anne DiBenedetto, Tiffany Nadia Escandar, Christopher Bryan Collins.

Community Scholarship Winner. Celebrate Fairfax! Festival awarded McLean High School student Colleen Widmaier its community scholarship last month. She wrote an essay on how she helped restore a home for a senior citizen, Dranesville Supervisor John Foust reported in his most recent newsletter.

The Celebrate Fairfax Community Spirit Scholarship Program honors county high school students for their community involvement, good grades and more.
