Langley Boys Lacrosse Three Peat State Champions

The loud roar of “Three Peat” from the Langley High School cheering section was all that could be heard as the Saxons jumped out to a 16-6 lead late in the fourth quarter en route to a 17-8 victory over Chantilly in front of a packed stadium at Westfield.

Langley took a 5-0 lead mid way through the first quarter and kept the pressure on throughout the game, pulling out to a 11-1 lead in the second quarter prior to Chantilly scoring two back to back goals right before halftime.

The speedy Saxons were lead by junior Michael Adams’ game high nine goals, including two back to back scores in the third quarter that quelled a three goal scoring spree by the Chargers.

“Mikey is just a pure finisher,” said Langley head coach Earl Brewer after the game. “When the ball is in his stick, forget it, its going to be in the back of the net.”

A great way to end a post season that included a 6-5 overtime win over Battlefield and a come from behind win against Annandale to reach the finals.

“You can never settle down against them, even at the end their still dodging and scoring,” said Adams after the victory. “We got up early and we pushed it early, but when it comes down to it their still a great team.  It feels great to beat them by a little bit more than we usually would.”

The Saxons defense was relentless throughout the night, every time a Chantilly attacker came into their territory there were three to four bodies on him slashing furiously at the ball.

Sophomore Luke Salzer, junior Hunter Benz and senior Jack Sandusky each scored a pair of goals for Langley.

Eight different players scored for the Chargers, but the early lead proved to be too much to overcome.

“They’re a tough, physical, athletic team, they’re much more athletic than we are,” said Langley head coach Earl Brewer after the win.

Langley is undefeated against Chantilly in their last five meetings over the past three seasons, including the 2009 state championship game.  This is Brewer’s third straight season finishing as the state champion, and Langley will return many of its talented young juniors and sophomores next season.

“They’re like your kids you know you can’t pick one over the other,” said Brewer referring to his three titles. “I’m really happy because I have a nice group of seniors, so many guys are coming back, we’re in a good place, maybe it should be a good time for me to go play more golf or something, I don’t know.”
