McLean High School PTSA President Looks Back Over an Eventful Year

Maryann Lastova ends her presidency.

McLean Patch asked the outgoing president of the McLean High PTSA if we could share her final note as a way of informing the neighbors of the PTSA's accomplishments this year.

Tonight is our last PTSA meeting for this school year:  7:00 - 8:00 PM, in the Library.  I hope you will join us.  Serving as your PTSA president ends tonight, and this is my last year as a McLean High parent. Thank you for great memories and all of your support. We have often been awed by parental generosity and engagement, our students' enthusiasm and support, and our teachers and staff's tireless work helping our students, families, and communities.

I hope you will continue to sustain your school and PTSA. Loretta D'Ermes has been at my side all year and will be at the helm soon. We are very fortunate to have her, and I hope you will support Loretta as you have me.

Loretta assumes office at the close of tonight's meeting. Please come welcome her and the new team. The success of a PTSA and school community depends on leadership, but also critical are our parents, teachers, staff, and students. You make the difference.

We set three main goals this year: enhancing safety at the Westmoreland Street entrance, including installation of Wink-o-matics and landscaping, detering substance abuse, and encouraging health & wellness.  With your support we were able to accomplish every goal and much more.

I'd like to pause to thank all of you, our team of helping hands, and my family - my son Kevin who stepped up to help at home and my husband who did far more domestic chores than most husbands and was always there with wise counsel.

Thank you, Dr. Jackson, for supporting our programs and me personally. And thanks to our Executive Committee and committee chairs for walking the extra mile. Most of all thank you parents, students, teachers and staff for allowing me to serve, for supporting so many programs, and for being engaged at school. I wish you all the best.
