McLean Softball Falls in Little League World Series Final

Sunnyside Little League of Tucson, Ariz., blanks McLean 9-0.

The McLean Softball Majors All-Star Team fell to Sunnyside Little League of Tucson, Ariz., 9-0 on Wednesday night in the Little League Softball World Series final in Portland, Ore.

“So proud of our girls for such an incredible run,” McLean Little League tweeted early Thursday morning East Coast time. “State champs! Southeast champs! 2nd place in the LL World Series! Storybook season.”

The game was televised on ESPN2 and didn’t get underway until after 11 p.m. EST.

Arizona climbed out to a 2-0 in the first, then added one in the third and scored six more in the fourth, according to The Washington Post.

McLean received best wishes from Sen. Mark Warner and U.S. Rep. Jerry Connolly via Twitter on Wednesday.

The 12-member team will likely have five players return to next year’s squad.
