Mr. McLean, Barricade Bill, The Rifleman Among McLean High School Athletic Hall of Fame 2013 Inductees

Induction will take place Friday night during McLean-Langley football game.

What do Mr. McLean, Barricade Bill and the Rifleman have in common?

They'll be in good company Friday night as three of 16 individuals inducted into the McLean High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

The 2013 inductees' accomplishments span more than 50 years, many of them responsible for firsts, unbroken records and excelling in multiple sports.

Induction will take place during halftime at the McLean-Langley football game at McLean on Friday night. The inductees also will be honored during an afternoon reception in Tysons Corner.

McLean High School opened in 1955 and inducted its first class of Hall of Famers in 2011. This will be the second class.

EVERETT CLOUD '57

  • “Mr. McLean” and “Mr. Everything”
  • One of the greatest and most dominant all-around athletes in McLean High School history
  • First-Team Washington Post All-Met running back, 1956
  • Northern Virginia Outstanding Football Player, 1956
  • Led McLean to 10-0 record and Northern Virginia championship; scored 16 touchdowns
  • First All-Met in McLean High School history
  • All-Northern Virginia basketball and baseball player
  • Threw no-hitter as a sophomore at Falls Church High School
  • 1996 inductee, Fairfax County Football Hall of Fame
  • Football captain at University of Maryland
  • Played in Senior Bowl and Blue-Gray Game and drafted by Dallas Cowboys and Buffalo Bills

ELLIOTT MCBRIDE '61

  • Basketball, football and baseball standout at McLean
  • Broke several McLean basketball scoring records, including 31 points in a game
  • Two-time basketball Most Valuable Player
  • All-Northern Virginia and Honorable Mention All-Met basketball selection
  • Starred for Virginia State Champion Babe Ruth Baseball Team in World Series
  • Played basketball at Duke University
  • Remains the only McLean basketball player to ever play in the ACC

TERRY GREFE '63

  • One of the greatest all-around athletes in McLean High School history
  • Two-time basketball Most Valuable Player
  • Standout football player, led Highlanders to consecutive 6-3-1 records
  • All-Northern Virginia basketball selection
  • Starred at George Washington University in both basketball and baseball
  • Scored more than 1,000 points in 4 years at GW
  • Average 17 points per game as a GW senior
  • George Washington University baseball Most Valuable Player

DICKY RICKBEIL '63

  • One of the greatest wrestlers in McLean High School history
  • First State Champion in the history of McLean High School in any sport
  • 1963 112-pound Virginia State Wrestling Champion
  • McLean High School Most Outstanding Wrestler 1962 and 1963
  • Northern Virginia Most Outstanding Wrestler 1962 and 1963
  • Northern Virginia Wrestling Champion 1962 and 1963

BILL DOW '64

  • “Detour Dow” and “Barricade Bill”
  • First All-State First-Team football player in McLean High School history
  • Led 1963 Highlanders to 8-1-1- record and Northern Virginia Championship
  • Dominant defensive end and offensive lineman
  • 76 tackles, 5 fumble recoveries and 3 blocked punts in 1963
  • Earned Washington Post Player of the Week Honors November 1963
  • Lettered two years at McLean in football, basketball, and baseball
  • One of greatest players in Naval Academy History
  • Named to Memorial Stadium All-Time 50th Anniversary Team at Navy
  • Last Navy athlete to letter in basketball, baseball, and football

STEVE LUXFORD '64

  • Led 1963 Highlanders to 8-1-1- record and Northern Virginia Championship
  • Touchdown Club Most Outstanding Player, DC Suburban Area
  • 1164 yards rushing and 17 touchdowns in 10 games in 1963
  • Known for hitting monstrous home runs at McLean
  • Led Dartmouth to 2 Ivy League championships at running back

MIKE SIMONS '71

  • Regarded as greatest basketball player in the history of McLean High School
  • Only First-Team Washington Post All-Met basketball selection in school history
  • Only player from Northern Virginia on 1971 All-Met team
  • Two-time McLean basketball MVP and leading scorer as junior and senior
  • All-State First-Team selection, two-time All-Region, All-District selection
  • Averaged over 20 points and 15 rebounds per game
  • Held school career scoring record from 1971-1983 and single-game scoring record of 36 from 1971-1987
  • Still holds single-game rebounding record of 27
  • Played at Stanford and voted their Most Inspirational Player  

GRECO MYREN '76

  • One of the greatest, most dominant soccer players in McLean High School history
  • 1975 All-American and Washington Post All-Metropolitan Player of the Year

KARL BUCKWALTER '81 (Coach)

  • Known as the best defensive back in McLean High School football history
  • Winningest football coach in McLean High School history
  • 1980 Northern Region Defensive Player of the Year with school record 10 interceptions
  • Led 1980 Highlanders to 10-1 record and Great Falls District championship
  • All-District soccer sweeper and Honorable Mention All-Region
  • 1980-81 McLean High School Varsity Athlete of the Year
  • 1980 All-State, All-Region, Washington Post All-Met, Washington Star All-Met
  • As head coach, led 1995 Highlanders to best-ever 12-1 record and Northern Region title
  • Four-time District Coach of the Year, three-time Northern Region Coach of the Year

JO BOOBAS '83 

  • One of the best all-around athletes in McLean High School history
  • Standout in soccer, basketball, field hockey, and track and field
  • Washington Post All-Met soccer player and broke several school scoring records
  • One of McLean’s all-time leading soccer scorers with 170 points
  • Two-time All-Region and three-time All-District soccer selection
  • Led 1982 field hockey team to Northern Region title and Virginia State runner-up
  • Field Hockey All-District, All-Region, All-Met
  • All-District basketball player and 1983 MVP and leading scorer 
  • Helped North Carolina to three NCAA soccer titles, 31 career goals and 27 assists at UNC

  • Best female lacrosse player in McLean High School history and one of greatest athletes ever

  • 1996 Washington Post All-Met selection and two-time All-Region lacrosse selection
  • 1995 Washington Post Honorable Mention All-Met in both field hockey and lacrosse
  • Lettered all four years in lacrosse and two-time MVP
  • Led Highlanders to three district field hockey titles and one Northern Region title
  • Full Scholarship for lacrosse to Loyola College in Maryland.
  • Played in three Finals Fours, CAA All-Conference and All-Tournament selection

LAVON CARTER '96

  • Led best Highlanders football team in school history

DOREAN KASS '96 
  • One of the most dominant defensive and offensive linemen in McLean High School history
  • Led Highlanders to greatest season in school history in 1995 with 12-1 record

  • First Team All-State, All-Region, All-District at defensive tackle

DEMBY BANBURY (Coach)
  • One of winningest coaches in McLean High School history
