Virginia Crew: Langley, McLean Place Well in Finals

At Virginia Scholastic Rowing Championships, the teams from McLean's high schools brought home five first-place finishes.

The men's and women's crew from Langley and McLean both came home victorious from the state championship Saturday at the Virginia Scholastic Rowing Championship (VASRA). 

The McLean women's crew took first place in the Lightweight Eight with a time of 5:38:70. McLean men's crew took first place in the 1st Eight Petite at 4:54:80.

Langley's women took first place in the Women's 1st Four (6:05:20) and the Women's 2nd Four (6:52:10) and the Lightweight Four. The Langley Men's Junior Four took first place in their final, too (5:36:40).

Since 1979, VASRA has sponsored championships for boats from across Virginia and The District. Today, it's the largest Virginia rowing event of the year.

Forty-nine schools from Virginia and Washington, DC competed in the 2013 event, rowing in more than 60 races throughout the course of the day.

"We had some excellent races today and there were some very close races," VASRA President John White told Patch as he stood watching the finals on the Occoquan.
