The farm's popular 18th Century Market Fair takes place this weekend. Attractions will include fire-cooked meats, merchants, dancing, singing and crafts. The event is also held in October and May every year.

Visitors can enter the farm through the Gatehouse Gift Shop, where shop manager, Katherine Rogers, will give a brief but informative orientation on the history of the farm. The shop has a variety of products, including jewelry, fruit preserves, museum reproductions and more.

After picking up a map and paying a small admission fee, guests can exit the shop and walk down a dirt path to begin their tour of the farm.

Members of the Claude Moore "farm family" are dressed in colonial attire throughout the farm to answer any questions about colonial life in Virginia.

Tom, the very friendly turkey, will greet visitors in the tobacco fields with his female companions, where they will be hard at work, foraging the plants for pesky hornworms.

Staying true to 18th century style, the other animals on the farm include cattle, hogs, chickens, geese, cats and dogs.

Aside from every day farm work, the farm holds events, such as weekly book sales on Wednesdays from 3-8 p.m. and some Saturdays.

Claude Moore Colonial Farm is the only privately operated National Park in the United States, so its events serve as a resourceful way to raise funds.

The farm is located at 6310 Georgetown Pike. It is open Wednesday to Sunday from 10:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. from April until mid-December. Regular admission is $3 for adults and $2 for children ages 3-12.
