Father’s Day Car Show Celebrates the History of the Automobile
On Sunday, June 17, bring Dad to the annual Antique Car Show at Sully Historic Site from 10 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Co-sponsored by Fairfax County Park Authority and the Model A Ford Club of America for 39 consecutive years, the show features foreign and American cars, trucks and specialty vehicles through 1987. Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $6 for children. Free parking is available on site.
More than 400 antique and classic vehicles fill Sully’s grounds at the largest car show in Northern Virginia. Trophies and plaques will be awarded in all classes at the end of the day. Visitors can purchase the car of their dreams at the Car Corral, watch a Model T take-apart demonstration, or find the perfect accessory or gift in the Craft, Antique and Auto Market. Add the 2012 limited edition car show pin to your collection for $5.
At the children's tent, younger visitors can make a special hat to take home, play 18th and 19th century games and color a special classic car picture for dad. The children's tent is generously sponsored by the McAdam Financial Group.
Included in admission is a guided tour of the first floor of the 1794 home of Richard Bland Lee, Northern Virginia’s first congressman.
Sully is located in Chantilly, VA, off Air & Space Museum Parkway East, ¼ mile north of Route 50 and four miles south of the Dulles Toll Road.

Spend Fathers’ Day Weekend in a Tent
Take the family camping on Fathers’ Day weekend. The Fairfax County Park Authority has a pair of exciting family camping programs.
Bring camping gear, toasting sticks and dinner to cook on those sticks over a campfire alongside the Potomac River at Riverbend Park, 8700 Potomac Hills Street in Great Falls, VA. S’mores and a light breakfast will be provided as part of the Riverside Camping experience. The program begins at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 15 and runs until morning. The next day, Ellanor C. Lawrence Park invites you to take a trek to Shenandoah National Park for a Mountain Wildlife Camping Trip. You’ll meet a naturalist at Big Meadows campground for three hikes in the park. It’s a chance to visit a unique forest habitat and learn about species that call the park home, such as black bears, snowshoe hares and white-tailed deer. Adventure in Your Fathers’ Day Plans
The Fairfax County Park Authority puts a twist into your picnic plans. Get away from the ants — in fact, get away from it all — with a Canoe-Tour Picnic at Swain’s Lock on the Potomac River.
Hop into a canoe at Riverbend Park, 8700 Potomac Hills Street in Great Falls, Va., at 11 a.m. on Sunday, June 17, and head over to the Maryland side of the river to enjoy a picnic lunch next to the C&O canal. It’s an opportunity to learn about the canal’s exciting history and to search for wildlife in the canal’s quiet waters.
If you’re a canoeing rookie, an introduction to this great sport’s basics is included. No previous paddling experience is required. Canoes and personal floatation devices are provided.
