200,000 Meals Packed in McLean to Help Stop Hunger

1,200 volunteers spend glorious autumn day helping others

More than 1,200 volunteers took over the church hall at Redeemer Lutheran and spent Saturday packing 200,000 meals to Stop Hunger Now to help feed those in need around the world

The gathering looked like controller chaos: There were kids, high school students, parents, adults and grandparents. Rock music blared to help morale. The hall was a rainbow of hairnets. Numbers of finished meals were flashed on the wall so folks could track their progress.

The volunteers included the McLean High School football team, brought by principal Dr. Deborah Jackson, a leading member of McLean Rotary, the Mormon Church, the McLean chapter of the American Legion, Temple Rodef Shalom, Boone and Sons Jewelers, the BoyScouts, Vinson Hall and church members from around McLean.

Three long sets of tables were set up in the hall of the Chain Bridge Road church. At one end the ingredients: rice, soy, a vitamin pack, a dehydrated mix of vegetables and ziplock bags. At the other end of the line a bag weighed to make sure each was between 3.79-3.84 pounds.

Bob Hahne of McLean Rotary had again organized the meal-packing event. Rotary paid $50,000 for the ingredients said Lee Warren, the New Initiative Developer, for Stop Hunger Now.
