Fifty Years of secrets from Vic & Pat Kimm:

Vic & Pat Kimm have been married for fifty years and are still best friends.  Look at the pictures and you will see his arm draped over her shoulders, grinning as though he has just won the lottery.  She is still his trophy wife.

When I learned about the length and happiness of their marriage, I immediately started pumping them for their expert advice.  Here is what they said:

  • Think of others before yourself.
  • Communication is key.
  • Take time to reassess and gauge your life together.
  • Really keep in touch with each other, at least once per month.
  • Find out where the other person is at, and what they are into.
  • Review where you are at, going, or want to go as individuals and as a team.
  • Share your thoughts and activities.
  • And this reporter's favorite:

"Live by the notion that nobody is perfect.  There is no perfect marriage, perfect kids, or perfect life.

'Perfect' is a challenge you just can't meet."
