McLean Symphony Kicks Off 'A Surprisingly Familiar Season' and More This Weekend

Five things in and around McLean this weekend.

Experience the McLean Symphony: The McLean Symphony kicks off its 42nd season at 7:30 p.m. Saturday with, "The Romantic Chemist," featuring works by Borodin and Strauss. Catch the show at the Alden Theatre at the McLean Community Center, 1234 Ingleside Ave., McLean. Adult tickets are $25; seniors, $20; children 12 and under, free. Tour the McLean Fire Station: The McLean Volunteer Fire Department will host an open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday to wrap up National Fire Prevention Week. Shoot the firehose, watch a mock rescue, learn safety tips and more. The station is at 1455 Laughlin Ave. More info here.

Laugh, for a Change: Enjoy a night of standup comedy Saturday in support of the Northern Virginia chapter of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws at theState Theatre in Falls Church. Nine of DC's hottest young comics will put on a show starting at 8 p.m. Tickets are $5, plus a $5 donation to NOVA-NORML is requested.

Trees 101 in Great Falls: At 2 p.m. Sunday, join the Great Falls Citizens Association on its first-ever Village Tree Walk. Two members will lead a group walk through quiet village streets, point out major native trees and discuss their major characteristics.
