McLean's VFW post was founded in 1964 by World War II veterans. The post members now range from World War II veterans to newly returned veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan. Only servicemen and women who served in a combat zone are eligible for membership in the VFW. But the VFW welcomes as auxiliary members the children, spouses and close relatives of combat veterans. The post is known for its monthly crab dinners during the summer and its Memorial Day and Veterans Day observances. The canteen has no liquor license so it serves beer, home-cooked food and conversation. <br />
