McLean Police District News: Beware Speeders. The McLean Police District commander has created a new traffic enforcement team to mainly catch speeders. Several readers have asked about seeing police cars on Chain Bridge Road between downtown and Great Falls. Here's your answer. District Commander Capt. Dan Janickey told the McLean Citizens Advisory Committee Thursday night he had created a new five-officer team to enforce pedestrian safety, seat belt use, distracted driving and speeding laws. The Fairfax County Police Department is sponsoring a new two-day self-defense course beginning Tuesday, May 22 and 24. Classes will be held at the Fairfax County Criminal Justice Academy, 14601 Lee Road, Chantilly from 6-9 p.m. Whether you’re 13, 30, 80 or anywhere in between, this comprehensive safety course will help prepare you against attackers, the police department said in an announcement. The course is free of charge throughout its introductory time period. It is open to all women 13 years of age or older; however mothers (or female guardians) are required to attend with their teens. Fairfax county firefighters are putting the focus on preventing children from starting fires as part of the national Arson Awareness Week taking place this now.bhj The Juvenile Firesetters Intervention Program, which under the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department works to prevent children from being involved with fires.
