Boys and girls teams win championships
By Dick Rosenbaum and Bobbi Bowman UPDATE: The McLean High School soccer teams, both the boys and girls teams, won their championship games last night in the Liberty District. The lady Highlanders clinched their championship first by defeating Stone Bridge, 1-0. Then the McLean boys defeated their crosstown rival Langley, 1-0. Some neighbors shared a video of the boys championship game. ORIGINAL STORY. The McLean High School girls and boys soccer teams will play for the Liberty District Championship titles this evening at Madison High School. By Dick Rosenbaum UPDATE: The McLean boys soccer team defeated Thomas Jefferson in the Liberty District semi-finals this afternoon. McLean plays in the district championship Friday (tomorrow) at 8pm at Madison High School against the winner of the South Lakes - Langley match now underway at Stone Bridge. ORIGINAL STORY: The McLean and Langley High School boys soccer teams advance to the semi-finals in the Liberty District tournament and play each other this afternoon at Stone Bridge High School beginning at 5pm. In first round action, McLean defeated Stone Bridge 2-1 and Langley defeated Fairfax 1-0. In other first round action, Jefferson defeated Marshall 3-0 and South Lakes defeated Madison 1-0. By Dick Rosenbaum The Liberty District boys and girls soccer season has ended with the District Tournament set to begin Monday. In the boys soccer regular season Thomas Jefferson and Langley tied for first, with TJ defeating Langley in the regular season for the tie breaker. South Lakes finished 3rd. McLean and Stone Bridge tied for 4th place, with McLean defeating Stone Bridge in the regular season for the tie breaker. Madison finished 6th, Fairfax 7th and Marshall finished 8th. In the district tournament: Thomas Jefferson hosts Marshall, Langley is host to Fairfax, Madison travels to South Lakes and McLean hosts Stone Bridge. Team celebrates undefeated season
McLean High Tenns Team Coach Aavo Tomkov shared this story about the team's Libery District Championship. The McLean High School boys tennis team completed Liberty District play with a perfect 14-0 record and achieved only its second district boys tennis championship in school history. McLean is blessed with talent so deep that two competitive teams could be fielded from its large squad. Notable district singles records were achieved by #1 Nik Padmanabhan 13-0, #2 (senior) Kayvon Mobarakeh 10-0, #3 Kyle Chisu Edwards 11-1, #4 Mike Padmanabhan 14-0, #5 Ahmed Skaljic 9-2 and #6 (senior) Bing Waid 9-0.
