At Virginia Scholastic Rowing Championships, the teams from McLean's high schools brought home five first-place finishes.
The men's and women's crew from Langley and McLean both came home victorious from the state championship Saturday at the Virginia Scholastic Rowing Championship (VASRA). The McLean women's crew took first place in the Lightweight Eight with a time of 5:38:70. McLean men's crew took first place in the 1st Eight Petite at 4:54:80. Langley's women took first place in the Women's 1st Four (6:05:20) and the Women's 2nd Four (6:52:10) and the Lightweight Four. Nobody ever said winning was easy. This weekend, the Madison High School girls lacrosse team certainly did it the hard way, defeating Langley High School in a come-from-behind 17-9 win Saturday in the Liberty District Championships after waiting out two lightning delays on consecutive nights. It's the third consecutive Liberty District title for the Warhawks — all of them taken in games against Langley. Madison and Langley took the field as scheduled Friday night, and the Warhawks trailed at halftime, but came out after the break and quickly took a 9-8 lead. On Friday night, the Madison High School boys lacrosse team did something it hadn't done in years: post a win against the Langley Saxons. The Warhawks defeated Langley 10-2 on the Saxons' home turf on Friday night, taking the Liberty District Championship and entering next week's tournament as a top seed. Friday evening, the teams are set up for a repeat of last year's title game, as the Warhawks and Saxons face off at Langley High School.
