It's not often you can go to the movie theater and see your hometown on the big screen. But that's just what will happen for moviegoers in McLean this weekend. Argo, Ben Affleck's latest project, was partially shot in McLean in 2011 and opens nationwide Friday. The film is true story based on unclassified intelligence documents. "As the Iranian revolution reaches a boiling point, a CIA 'exfiltration' specialist concocts a risky plan to free six Americans who have found shelter at the home of the Canadian ambassador," according to the International Movie Database. Ben Affleck's latest movie, scheduled to be released in theaters nationwide next month, could be a major contender for an Academy Award, the Huffington Post reports. And get this, parts of it were filmed in McLean. "At this point, it's academic: Argo premiered at the prestigious Telluride Film Festival on Friday, and the reviews were rapturous," the article reports. Last year, when Academy Award winner Ben Affleck landed in McLean to shoot scenes for his latest project, Argo, McLean Patch brought you all the on-set info. A year later, the film is set to debut in theaters Oct. 12. In the meantime, we thought you'd enjoy watching the trailer. The CIA is a star with its own TV series. The Military Channel is airing "CIA Secrets" at varying times between now and June 23. Here's the schedule. Some neighbors were asking who paid the Fairfax County police officers who blocked off streets for Ben Affleck and his movie crew that filmed in McLean the weekend of Nov. 18. Answer: The movie company paid the officers, all of whom were off-duty. Affleck was in McLean directing and starring in "Argo," a new film based on a CIA mission during the takeover of the American Embassy in Tehran in 1979. Filming at CIA, downtown, Pleasant Grove Church
Movie star Ben Affleck has left McLean. He and his movie crew reportedly spent Saturday filming at the CIA for "Argo" a movie Affleck is directing and starring in based on a CIA mission during the takeover of the American Embassy in Tehran in 1979. On Sunday what they call the "second unit" filmed in the morning at the McLean Cleaners in downtown, then shot scenes along Canal Road and wrapped up the day shooting exterior scenes at McLean landmark, the Pleasant Grove Church on Lewsinville Road. Alas, Affleck did not return. He reportedly spent the day filming "interiors" at the State Department in Washington. Movie star, actor, director Ben Affleck will spend the weekend in McLean directing and starring in a new film based on a CIA mission during the takeover of the American Embassy in Tehran in 1979. After wrapping up a day of filming on Spring Vale Avenue in West McLean Friday at dusk, Affleck said, "I love McLean.The people are very hospitable." He was nearly unrecognizable in a full black beard. After the last shot, the Oscar winner waded into a crowd of waiting fans --- mostly teenage girls--- and smiled and joked through a series of photographs and autographs. I am pleased with the response to this question posed by 'some neighbors'. It may seem minor and although the weekend the movie filming occurred was less than 2 weeks ago but would it be possible in the future to state when the question was initially raised and when question was answered?
