Annual celebration of public safety officers who protect county residents
The suicidal woman jumped into the black, churning waters of the Potomac River in one of the most treacherous stretches near Great Falls about 1 am last July. Fairfax County Police officer Ali Sepehri, of the McLean District station, couldn't see her but he immediately followed her into the water. "She pushed me under the water once. I thought this was not good. I literally thought I was going to die." Fairfax County Police Officer Federick Yap, of the Reston District station, also jumped into the white water tumbling over very large rocks. "One mistake and you are gone," he said. McLean High School PTSA hosts a panel discussion on the Perils of the College Drinking Culture, sponsored by the Unified Prevention Coalition.
It's tough to be a teenager these days. The academic expectations are rigorous, and the social pressures can be daunting. And based on the turnout for a recent panel discussion on the problem of college-aged binge-drinking sponsored by the United Prevention Coalition, and the McLean High School PTSA, that feeling is shared by many. Nearly 250 parents and students attended a program on "The Perils of the College Drinking Culture" on a rainy Wednesday night at McLean High School. The students and parents who attended represented many local high schools including McLean High School, Langley, Madison, Thomas Jefferson, W.T. Woodson, Madeira School, Washington-Lee, Yorktown and Wakefield. They came hoping to learn more about what to expect …

Chief David M. Rohrer accused of retaliation
The head of the major crimes division of the Fairfax County police department has taken the highly unusual step of filing suit against the county police chief. Fairfax County Police Chief David Rohrer retaliated against a female police captain who disagreed with how Rohrer handled an unrelated sexual harassment investigation, according to allegations in a civil lawsuit filed against Rohrer Tuesday. The lawsuit, filed on behalf of Fairfax County Police Department Captain Denise Hopson, accuses Rohrer of, among other things, using emails written by an anonymous accuser to defame Hopson on the department's intranet, BLUENet.
