New Website Allows Residents to See How McLean Legislators Voted on Important State Bills

Finally citizens can track House of Delegates votes by legislators' name

This year for the first time Virginia citizens can actually easily track how their representatives in the House of Delegates voted on every bill. Want to find out how the three delegates representing McLean voted on bills requiring women who want an abortion to have an ultrasound, allowing unlimited handgun purchases, giving counties the right to decide when to open schools? A resolution sponsored by Del. Mark Keam, a Democrat, who represents Vienna and a sliver of McLean, and Del. Assembly Subcommittee Snubs Multi-Language Miranda Bill

Del. Keam wanted officers to provide a Miranda warning to an arrestee in their native language, written or oral.

A bill that would have required police officers in Virginia to relay a Miranda warning to an arrestee in that person's native language failed to advance beyond a General Assembly subcommittee. Del. Mark Keam, who represents part of McLean, presented House Bill 1048 last week to provide a Miranda warning to a person accused of a criminal offense in their native language, written or oral, if the arrestee did not understand English. Keam (D-35th District) said the subcommittee voted unanimously by voice to pass by indefinitely, meaning he cannot present the same bill again this legislative session. “I can always introduce another bill,” Keam said Monday during a telephone interview. “But the members on the subcommittee will be the same next …

McLean Neighbors at White House State Dinner

State Dinner for South Korean President

Two McLean neighbors attended the posh White House state dinner Thursday evening given for the visitng South Korean president and his wife. Sen. Richard Lugar and wife Deb Lugar are long-time McLean residents. The senior senator from Indiana is also the ranking member of the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee. Virginia Del. Mark Keam, whose 35th District includes a western sliver of McLean, and his wife  Alex Seong Keam also attended. They joined the 225 guests* guests at the State Dinner honoring the President of South Korea  in the East Room where  they  enjoyed a Fall Harvest Dinner conceived by First Lady Michelle Obama and White House Executive Chef Cristeta Comerford.
