Five Things About July 4th Fireworks in D.C.

Thinking about going to watch the fireworks show on the National Mall? Here are five things you need to know.

It doesn't get more patriotic than celebrating our nation's birthday in the capital, does it? The best fireworks show in town (and probably in the country, in fact) will be launched from the National Mall on July 4. If you're interested in watching the display from downtown D.C., here are five things you need to know. 1. The fireworks will be launched from the Reflecting Pool area at 9:10 p.m. Wednesday. The show is expected to last 17 minutes. 2. The National Park Service suggests the following locations for best viewing the fireworks: U.S. Capitol, Lincoln Memorial, National Mall between 14th Street and 3rd Street, Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, Thomas Jefferson Memorial, The White House Ellipse, West Potomac Park, East Potomac Park…

Independence Day Expected to Draw Major Crowds to National Mall

Thousands of people turn out every year to watch the fireworks show in Washington.

If you are tempted to head downtown Monday to watch the country's most spectacular fireworks light up the National Mall, plan to take the metro. Parking will be all-but-impossible in downtown D.C. on July 4 when hundreds of thousands of people from all over the country will descend on the capital to celebrate the most patriotic day of the year. Metrorail service will run from 7 a.m. to midnight Monday. Ridership levels will peak between 6 p.m. and midnight. According to the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, the Blue and Orange lines will not stop at the Smithsonian Station during the day.
