Residents Deliver Gun Violence Petitions to Warner’s Office

McLean-area Concerned Citizens Against Gun Violence collected more than 3,000 signatures.

The McLean-area Concerned Citizens Against Gun Violence delivered more than 3,000 signatures to the office of Sen. Mark Warner on Tuesday urging him to support universal background checks on all gun purchases, limits on the size of ammunition clips and the assault weapons ban. The Virginia Democrat’s announcement Wednesday that he will support the Manchin-Toomey bipartisan compromise came as welcome news to the group, according to a news release. “While it does not address the ammunition or assault weapons issue, the compromise does close the gun show loophole, one of our primary goals,” said group leader Ben Zuhl in a prepared statement. “The over 3,000 Virginians represented by our petition are happy to have Senator Warner’s vote on …

I've had an NRA member, a woman who was shot 42 years ago and recovered, Republicans, hunters, a competitive target shooter, a nurse, a woman whose 2 sons are police officers, veterans, and a family member of one of the Virginia Tech victims sign our CCAGV petition for me. All of them are Virginians who live in Congressman Wolf's district and like me, they want smart gun laws that keep families …   more ›

Study on Mass Shootings: Rep. Wolf Stirs Gun Control Debate with Report

Access to guns, mental health covered in Virginia rep's report by the National Science Foundation — topics Wolf says need to stay part of the conversation.

Days after President Barack Obama used his State of the Union address to call on Congress and the country to act on gun control, U.S. Rep. Frank Wolf (R-10th) has released a report that examines driving forces behind mass shootings, including violent media and mental health issues — topics absent from the president's address, Wolf said. The 41-page report, “Youth Violence: What We Need to Know,” includes several studies compiled by an advisory committee to the National Science Foundation (NSF). It will come before a U.S. House subcommittee later this spring. Among the study's findings: Exposure to violent media is a significant risk factor in shootings, but also "one of the easiest risk factors to change,” the report says. Its suggestions…

Did Congressman Wolf not see Vice President Biden's discussions with Hollywood and mental health experts when formulating the White House's approach to gun control? These issues have been included in depth in the approach formulated by the White House. I would like to hear a rebuttal from Frank Wolf to Wayne LaPierre's insurrectionist comments yesterday with the same alacrity with which Mr. Wolf …   more ›

Constituents to Wolf: 'Extend Tax Cuts' to Middle Class

Constituents from Virginia's 10th District stopped by Congressman Wolf's office Thursday to deliver letters asking him not to forget the middle class during budget negotiations.

A group of contituents from Congressman Frank Wolf's 10th District delivered a message to him Thursday: "Don't forget the Middle Class." That message was delivered in the form of 111 letters delivered to his Herndon office Thursday by constituents Jalmeen Soni of McLean and Chip Taggart, also of McLean. "As one of the Congressman's constituents, I have appreciated his willingness to take a stand on important public issues in the face of strong opposition from his party," said Taggart, in a news release from Virginia Organizing. "He [Wolf] did not sign the no tax pledge and, in fact, made a statement before Congress critical of those who did," Taggart noted. "And, he was one of only 38 Representatives who voted for a balanced approach to …

Wolf Raises More Than $750K, Top Donors From McLean

Incumbent congressman has more than five times campaign funds as challenger Cabral's $138,054.

With the election less than two months away, politican campaigns are heating up, including Virginia's 10th congressional district race. Both candidates in the race are keeping busy. Local Democrats gathered Sunday in McLean for a fundraising reception to benefit Democrat Kristin Cabral, who is running for Congress. Meanwhile, incumbent Congressman Frank R. Wolf, Jr., spent his Saturday campaigning in Prince William County's Haymarket, where he was getting to know some of his new constituents. Haymarket was added to Virginia's 10th congressional district after redistricting. McLean resident Cabral, a 46-year-old Harvard Law grad, federal prosecutor and mother of two, is running against Republican Wolf, 73, of Vienna. Wolf and his wife have …

Speak Out: Should McDonnell Continue Pursuit for Martire's MWAA Removal?

As Virginia GOP pushes for control of panel, resistance continues with court ruling against governor

As legislation proposed by U.S. Rep. Frank Wolf (R-10) works its way through Congress to rework the membership of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, Virginia leaders and the existing board remain tied up in court over the current membership. A Fairfax County Circuit Court judge ruled against Gov. Bob McDonnell (R) on Monday, leaving one seat on the MWAA board vacant as the parties resolve the dispute. McDonnell attempted to remove Dennis Martire — a Democratic appointee who has come under fire for a $9,000 plane ticket to Prague for a transportation conference that MWAA authorized — and replace him with Caren Merrick, a Republican who lost her run for delegate in the 31st District last fall. At issue is whether McDonnell had …

@ Dave Webster - Thanks. Apologies for attributing the Post comment to you. It is my opinion and that the Post's (and other media) transportation reporting is sometimes lacking in an understanding and presentation of real issues. Congressmen Call on FCC to Prevent Future 911 Failures

Moran, Connolly, Wolf want the FCC to reconsider a regulation concerning backup power that the commission proposed in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

Northern Virginia's three congressmen called on the Federal Communications Commission on Thursday to take action that will prevent future outages to the region's 911 systems. In a letter to FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski, U.S. Reps. Jim Moran, Gerry Connolly and Frank Wolf asked that the commission dust off a post-Hurricane Katrina regulation that would have required all telecommunications companies to provide at least eight hours of backup power for all cell phone towers. The regulation was subsequently struck down on a technicality related to how the commission handled public comments, according to a news release. “In the event of an emergency situation, whether it be a natural disaster or man-made threat, the public needs confidence …

Democrat Kristin Cabral Launches Campaign Against Incumbent Frank Wolf

The Fairfax attorney hopes to break gridlock in Congress and says "this mother can do it."

The courtyard next to the Leesburg Town Hall on Saturday served as the venue for Democrat Kristin Cabral to officially launch her campaign in the 10th congressional district against incumbent U.S. Rep. Frank Wolf (R). Cabral, a McLean resident, made her gender a primary theme, likely one of the reasons Clarke County School Board member Barbara Lee spoke during the event. In Clarke County, women hold two of five seats on the board of supervisors and three of five seats on the school board as well as serve as treasurer, commonwealth’s attorney, commissioner of the revenue and clerk of the court. Women also hold five seats on two town councils in Clarke County and the state Senate seat that represents the county. “We know and appreciate good…

As my friend, Wes Callender, points out: "Congressman Frank Wolf on the Issues; Are these Fairfax values?? Fairfax County Sees Slight Increase in Number of Rat Complaints

POLL: Ever seen a rat or had problems with mice? County has no plans yet to participate in 'rat summit' with other local jurisdictions.

Fairfax County has no plans—yet—to participate in a "rat summit" in the next few months with other jurisdictions, said Glen Barbour, the county's public safety information officer. "At this point, the Fairfax County Health Department has not been invited to participate in the so-called 'rat summit,' which currently is a state issue," he said. The meeting is the brainchild of Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, who has said he does not want Virginia overrun with D.C. rats. The office of fellow Republican Congressman Frank Wolf, who represents Virginia's 10th District, is reportedly helping coordinate the meeting. Cuccinelli, who lives in Prince William County with his wife and seven children, has said he plans to run for governor in …
