Allen Has Small Fundraising Lead in McLean

Democratic candidate Tim Kaine raised about $17,000 less than Republican George Allen in the most recent filing period.

The U.S. Senate race between Tim Kaine (D) and George Allen (R) is neck-and-neck both in the polls and in campaign funds raised from Virginia residents. During the most recent filing period, which ran from May 24 to June 30, Kaine raised $667,000 in donations of $200 or more from Virginians, according to the Virginia Public Access Project, which compiles its data from OpenSecrets.org. Allen raised less, with $409,000, according to the data. In overall fundraising, Kaine is hanging onto a narrow lead with $3.6 million compared to Allen’s $3.5 million in Virginia, in donations of $200 or more from Virginians. Wolf Raises More Than $750K, Top Donors From McLean

Incumbent congressman has more than five times campaign funds as challenger Cabral's $138,054.

With the election less than two months away, politican campaigns are heating up, including Virginia's 10th congressional district race. Both candidates in the race are keeping busy. Local Democrats gathered Sunday in McLean for a fundraising reception to benefit Democrat Kristin Cabral, who is running for Congress. Meanwhile, incumbent Congressman Frank R. Wolf, Jr., spent his Saturday campaigning in Prince William County's Haymarket, where he was getting to know some of his new constituents. Haymarket was added to Virginia's 10th congressional district after redistricting. He has identified with Republican Presidents throughout his tenure in Congress.
