Former Supervisor Named to GMU Board of Visitors. Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell has appointed former Dranesville Supervisor Stuart Mendelsohn to the George Mason University Board of Visitors. Mendelsohn, of Great Falls, is executive partner of the Tysons Corner office of Holland & Knight LLP, a law firm. Kimberly O. Dennis, of McLean, president and CEO of The Searle Freedom Trust, was reappointed to the GMU board. Award for Pam Danner. Danner was honored with the “Friend in Deed” from the Friends of the McLean Community Center “for outstanding leadership and support of the McLean Community Center.” Danner, a McLean attorney, was elected to the McLean Community Center Governing Board in 1986, and served until 1992. Update on Mohammed “Sam” Zaidan
McLean's hometown U.S. Marine Mohammed “Sam” Zaidan, stopped by Greenberry's Friday to share the newest chapter in his life. He's now: A Dad. A college graduate. A Marine reservist. A job-seeker. He was in town for a job interview. Edith Bendfeldt, the Godmother of Greenberry's, welcome him, as she always does with several huge hugs. He and his wife was now the parents of Sammy, eight days old. He graduated earlier this month with his Associates Degree in computer science. He now has two goals: a job and his BA probably also in computer science. Sam, as he is called, served in the U.S. Marines for four years. First, in Iraq. Then six months in Helmand Province in Afghanistan. He served in Golf Company, Second Battalion, 8th Marine …

Party at Greenberry's
"Lady" Edna Loop's birthday, her 92nd, was April 4 and she's been celebrating ever since. "I've been doing this since April 4," she said Friday at a birthday celebration organized by her friends at Greenberry's, a very popular downtown McLean coffee shop. "Every day someone has been doing something nice for me," she said. Edna Loop is a member of The Office, a shifting group of fun-loving retirees who convene daily at Greenberry's for an hour of coffee, companionship, and compassion. More than a dozen Office members gathered mid-morning Friday to help her celebrate her day. Everyone affectionately calls her "Lady Edna." "We have to honor Lady Edna," said Pam Hall. McLean Family won with a whooping 66 percent of votes from readers in the Patch poll. Greenberry's took second place among the six contenders. Accident in front of Greenberry's Friday at Noon
Capt. Keith Cross of the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department and a fire crew were in the McLean Giant getting lunch Friday around noon when the lights went out. "I mentioned to the guys, we'll be running a call now," said Capt. Cross, who heads the McLean fire station. A couple of minutes later they received a message: An accident literally around the corner in front of Greenberry's coffee shop on Beverly Road in downtown McLean. "We were here in less than four minutes," Cross said Sunday recounting the Friday events. His fire unit arrived at 12:08pm and found a car crashed against a utility pole.
