Celebs Give 'Best Dish' Nod to McLean Restaurant

McLean Family Restaurant named in Northern Virginia Mazagine callout for best dishes in NOVA.

The best dishes in Northern Virginia could very well be in McLean. At least that's what Newt and Callista Gingrich told Northern Virginia Magazine on the publication's EAT THIS NOW! hunt to find the best dishes in Northern Virginia. The magazine asked 28 local celebrities — from singers to politicians, writers to athletes — where they sought out their favorite entrees. Best of McLean Winner: McLean Family Restaurant

First winner of Best of Patch

Congratulations to McLean Family Restaurant for winning our inaugural Best of Patch contest --- the best place to breakfast in McLean. McLean Family won with a whooping 66 percent of votes from readers in the Patch poll. Greenberry's took second place among the six contenders. Because this poll is not scientific, it is not the sole consideration in choosing a winner. The winner will be determined by the Patch editor, based on poll results and reviews on Patch Places.

The McLean Ear: Popular Downtown Restaurant Closes After a Year

McLean 1910 closes.

Alas, McLean 1910 one of McLean's newest downtown restaurants, closed last week. The restaurant opened the day after Thanksgiving in November 2010 in the Langley Shopping Center on Chain Bridge Road. Owner George Kapetanakis has been in business in McLean since 1978 (33 years!) running the McLean Family Restaurant on Chain Bridge Road. MFR is the place to see some of McLean's best-known neighbors and eat some of the best and least expensive food in town. It's a favorite Newt Gingrich eatery. The Ear visited Kapetanakis Wednesday to give our condolences. He was off. Brother Peter said the restaurant closed because it had been losing money for a while. The Ear's usually reliable sources reported that George Kapetanakis visited the restaurant…

Starbucks and McDonalds aside, living in McLean is special due to the wonderful family-owned (or non-chain) restaurants that we have here, such as Pulcinella and Kazan. Any number of chains--ranging from mediocre to good--can be found nearby. That said, a restaurant with healthy food and affordable prices would be great--and bistros often fit the bill. The Greater McLean Chamber of Commerce annually  honors community and business leaders for their outstanding service to McLean. Seventeen men and women, our neighbors, received awards in a recent ceremony for their amazing work. McLean Patch is profiling each winner by publishing the citations awarded to each. George Kapetanakis has been in business in McLean since 1978 (33 years!) running the McLean Family Restaurant.  He believed that McLean needed a new casual-upscale American restaurant so in November of 2010 he opened McLean 1910. 1910’s mission is to not only provide the best food the area has to offer, but to create a distinct dining experience unlike any other.  He has enlisted the help of his kids to help run the restaurant with …
