Residents complain of more disruption, but officials say air traffic hasn't increased
Behram Shroff said Thursday he wasn't sure who has been flying helicopters over the area recently -- but he did know "we have a problem." Shroff, a McLean resident and Hamlet Citizens Association member, said there are at least eight to 10 flights each day in his part of Mclean, during all hours of the morning and evening. And Shroff's group isn't the only one complaining: Other residents have shared their concerns about what seems to be an increase in helicopter presence, a perception officials attempted to thwart Thursday night at the McLean Community Center during a session for McLean residents to become better familiarized with helicopter activity in the area. Representatives from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Marine …

Civil War marker unveiled in Lewinsville Park.
A new Civil War Trails marker was officially dedicated in Lewinsville Park Sunday afternoon. The marker commemorates the Battle of Lewinsville, fought on the morning of Sept. 11, 1861. Three Union soldiers were killed in the battle and four were taken prisoner. The Confederates lost no soldiers. Carole Herrick, chairman of McLean and Great Falls Celebrate Virginia, opened the ceremony with a brief historical synopsis of the battle. “Colonel J.E.B. Stuart was promoted to General because of the Battle of Lewinsville,” Herrick said. “There were other things that happened at Lewinsville, but this [the Battle of Lewinsville] was the main event.” The dedication of the marker was followed by an a cappella performance of “Battle Hymn of the …

Groundbreaking ceremony unveils new plans for McLean
A group of distinguished officials and guests gathered Wednesday morning at the intersection of Old Dominion Drive and Chain Bridge Road to celebrate the groundbreaking of the McLean Utility Undergrounding Project. The project aims to beatify the center hub of McLean by replacing outdated overhead power lines with underground wiring. The traffic signals will also be replaced by the Virginia Department of Transportation with less invasive mast arm poles. Safety improvements will be made for pedestrians including an extension to the Listrani’s peninsula. “It would be nice if revitalization could simply happen by the wave of a magic wand and the snap of a finger, but things don’t happen that way. Revitalization takes time, money and hard work…
