Update: $6 Million Expansion of Spring Hill Elementary Progresses

The school's expansion project includes new classrooms and improvements to the cafeteria, among other projects.

The $6 million long-awaited expansion of Spring Hill Elementary School on Lewinsville Road has progressed through the summer. The project includes adding 12 new classrooms, enlarging the cafeteria with a new stage, enlarging the drop-off area, and a new roof, according to John Torre, the spokesperson for Fairfax County Public Schools. The expanded drop-off area should help ease traffic jams that now clog Lewinsville Road in the morning and the afternoon. The expansion is scheduled for completion September 2013, Torre said. This project also includes a controversial new stoplight and crosswalk at the school across from the Spring Hill Recreation Center. Joint Cooper/Spring Hill Robotics Team Wins Regional Tournament

Middle and Elementary School Joint Team

Ruth C. Donahue Orchestra Director, Spring Hill Elementary School sent along this news from its Robotics Team. The “Master Minds" First Lego Robotics Team from Cooper Middle and Spring Hill Elementary Schools in McLean  won the Division 2 First Lego League "Food Factor" Regional Tournament held in November at George Mason University. The Master Minds team, two eighth graders from Cooper MS and four sixth graders at Spring Hill ES, competed at the State Tournament held on December 3 - 4 at James Madison University. The team placed fourth in the Division 2 First Lego League state tournament. Division 2 is a middle school competition level.
