Football and Facebook: Virginia Residents Back Baltimore in 2013 Super Bowl

Facebook data shows most Northern Virginia users are rooting for the Baltimore Ravens, switching their allegiance (temporarily) from the Washington Redskins.

It's not a surprise that most Facebook users in Northern Virginia and D.C. started the football season solidly supporting the Washington Redskins—even though many people who live here came from someplace else. "While winning seems to matter, NFL teams have local followings that are probably heavily influenced by family ties and/or where a person grew up," according to Facebook, which recently compiled data on Facebook users who are fans of an NFL team on the social network. During the regular season, Redskins fans on Facebook are likely to be friends with fans of the Dallas Cowboys, Pittsburgh Steelers, Baltimore Ravens, Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants—most of those are geographically close to the D.C. area, Facebook reports.   But…

2013 Super Bowl: Virginia Natives on the Ravens, 49ers Rosters

Football players from right here in Virginia may take the field for Super Bowl XLVII on Feb. 3.

There are no professional football players from McLean playing in the 2013 Super Bowl (coming up this Sunday, Feb. 3) , but there are plenty from Virginia who may take the field for the Baltimore Ravens or the San Francisco 49ers.  When these two teams square off Sunday, it will be the fifth time they've met since the 1996 season. Baltimore has won three games — in 2003, 2007 and 2011. San Francisco won in 1996. Virginia Natives on the San Francisco 49ers Roster Ahmad Brooks is a linebacker for the San Francisco 49ers who had 50 tackles in 2011 and is on track to beat that this year. Before attending the University of Virginia, he attended C.D Hylton High School in Woodbridge and Hargrave Military Academy. (See Brooks’ bio here). He was …

This happened to me. I thought i was going nuts! Nice to know I wasn't alone. I tried to fix the SAP myself but to no avail. I called the company and they basically told me to try the same fixes I had already tried. They ended up rebooting my box and I lost a good portion of the first quarter along with the first touchdown. I was NOT happy.   more ›
