Presidential Candidate, McLean Resident Wins Georgia on Super Tuesday

Gingrich vows to stay in the presidential race

Republican presidential candidate and McLean neighbor Newt Gingrich won Tuesday's primary in Georgia, his adopted state. Leading presidential contender Mitt Romney won Virginia where only he and Texas Cong. Ron Paul appeared on the ballot. Georgia and Virginia were among 10 states holding a primary or caucus Tuesday. Gingrich came in third or fourth in the other races, according to the New York Times. He didn't even qualify for the ballot in Virginia. Gingrich, who was born in Harrisburg, Pa., was elected to Congress from Georgia in 1978. He was elected Speaker in 1994 when Republicans took control of the U.S. House. Very Light Turnout in McLean, Fairfax Today in Republican Presidential Primary

About four percent of registered voters had voted by mid-afternoon at the McLean precinct in today's Super Tuesday Republican Presidential Primary. Throughout Fairfax County about one percent of registered voters had cast ballots by mid-afternoon, according to the Fairfax County Board of Elections. The major reason given for the low turnout in  McLean and Virginia --- four Republicans are running for President, but only two qualified for the Virginia ballot --- former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and Texas Cong. Ron Paul. Neither McLean neighbor Newt Gingrich nor Great Falls resident Rick Santorum qualified for the Virginia ballot.
