McLean Hotel Ranks High for Seasoned Travelers

USA TODAY recently highlighted some of the best hotels in the United States.

Staybridge Suites in McLean found itself in good company in USA TODAY recently. The newspaper selected a panel of “road warriors”—frequent travelers who agreed to share experiences—to evaluate numerous hotels and resorts. One of the top hotels was Staybridge Suites, located near Tysons Corner at 6845 Old Dominion Drive. The “road warrior” who picked the McLean hotel, according to the newspaper, was Roger Loeb, a consultant in Parker, Colo. His favorite is his "home away from home," the Staybridge Suites, which he said was reasonably priced, reasonably located and staffed by "warm, outgoing people" who provide excellent service. Loeb also told the newspaper he enjoyed the free breakfast, free dinner with fresh wine and beer three nights a …

Committee Considers Changes to Gannett Campus

McLean Planning and Zoning is reviewing an application from Gannett that would allow the company to lease out some of its office space in Tysons Corner.

Tysons Corner-based Gannett is looking to cash in on some empty office space by leasing part of its headquarters to other tenants. To that end, the company has applied for a special exception to its zoning conditions, which currently restrict use of the property to a single company. Gannett has also asked the county to allow a future tenant to use the helipad, currently located on top of a parking garage on the Gannett campus. Gannett was granted use of a helipad by the county when it built the headquarters more than a decade ago, but the helipad has never been used and Gannett does not own an helicopter. Current zoning stipulates only Gannett is allowed to use the helipad. The company now wants to transfer that right to a potential tenant…

'A' in USA TODAY Sign Blown Off Gannett Building

Letter dislodged Monday as wind speeds in Northern Virginia picked up from Hurricane Sandy.

One of the letters on the outside of the Gannett headquarters on the McLean side of Tysons Corner was blown off the building Monday afternoon as wind speeds from Hurricane Sandy pick up speed in the area. The building is located at 7950 Jones Branch Dr. in McLean. The company confirmed in an email to employees one of the "A's" in "USA TODAY" was blown off, according to USA Today entertainment reporter Andrea Mandell, who reported the information on Twitter. Natalie DiBlasio, a breaking news reporter at USA TODAY, gave Patch permission to use the photo she posted on Twitter of the letter from inside the building. Corporate communications also confirmed the incident in an email to Patch. A spokesman for the company said the building is open…

  USA TODAY Named a new editor this week: David Callaway, former Editor in Chief of MarketWatch. Callaway will assume his new role in late July, according to a story posted on USA TODAY.
