Man was not found after eluding police in a vehicle chase Wednesday.
State police failed to apprehend an unknown male subject who fled a traffic stop Wednesday afternoon, losing the suspect after a vehicle, helicopter and K9 pursuit. An officer attempted to stop the man, driving a Toyota SUV, around 1:33 p.m. for "speeding in the northbound I-495 Express Lanes at Route 7," Virginia State Police said Wednesday in a statement. "The SUV refused to stop and a pursuit ensued," the statement continued. "The vehicle exited to the Dulles Toll Road going west and then took the exit to Spring Hill Road, where the driver lost control. The SUV went over the median and struck a tree. The lanes open Saturday morning, and cops say violators will be caught.
The I-495 Express Lanes will open early Saturday morning, providing drivers with alternatives to the oft-crowded general purpose lanes – and the Virginia State Police want drivers to remember that they’ll be on the lookout for violators. “Safety and compliance are essential to the effectiveness of the 495 Express Lanes,” said Capt. Mike Spivey, the Fairfax Division Commander for the Virginia State Police, in a statement. “The same ‘rules of the road’ that apply to the general purpose lanes are also in effect on the new express lanes and will be strictly enforced by our troopers.” All travelers who wish to use the lanes will need an E-ZPass or E-ZPass Flex. VDOT reports backups of about one mile
Update (3 p.m.): The accident has been cleared, reports 511va.org. Congestion because of the accident still lingers on Interstate 66 Westbound. ---- A two-vehicle accident on I-66 Westbound near Route 7/Leesburg Pike has shut down the right lane and the right shoulder, creating backups of about a mile. One person has been transported, said Corinne Geller, a spokesperson for Virginia State Police. The crash was reported to the state police at 1:51 p.m., she said.

Started with a "typical rear-ender"
A "typical rear-ender" at midday Monday stopped southbound traffic on the Beltway (I-495) near the Dulles Toll Road for hours, backing up traffic into Montgomery County. About 12:30 p.m. Monday, Michael G. Trio of Lexington, Va., was driving a tractor-trailer when he rear-ended a car, starting a chain-reaction accident involving five vehicles -- the tractor-trailer and four passenger vehicles, Virginia State Police said Monday afternoon. Trio told state police his brakes failed, said 1st Sgt. Neil Johnson, area commander of the Fairfax Barrack of the Virginia State Police.
