Election officers help direct the voting process during the election season.
New election officers may now register online on the State Board of Elections website. "Polling places will be busy on Election Day, and general registrars throughout the Commonwealth are seeking reliable and friendly individuals to serve both on and the days leading up to Election Day," a SBE release stated. "Those who serve as Officers of Election are an integral part of the elections process and assist citizens in a successful and pleasant voting experience." Once a volunteer signs up, the local election officials will be notified. Those interested in signing up can also choose to receive updates on the volunteer process by text. Connect with Northern Virginia organizations that need food, volunteers in aftermath of derecho
Several area organizations, centers and homes in Northern Virginia are going on more than 48 powers without power, drinkable water, or in some cases, food or resources. We're compiling a list of these groups that need food, water, fans or volunteers over the next several days. Post information about local groups in need in the comments or email erica.hendry at patch.com to be added to the list. Please try to include as much information as possible, such as a contact person and phone number, address, name of organization and best hours to stop by. Goldie Locks is sweet, playful, energetic and eager to please.
Since the loss of power in our region prevented so many from meeting Goldie last week, we are featuring this lovable pup again. We hope your power is back on, or will be very soon. _____ Hey there. My name is Goldie Locks, but my rescue friends all call me Goldie. I’m a Golden Retriever-Chow mix and weigh about 45 pounds, but still have some filling out to do. I’m only a year old and very much a puppy—sweet, playful, energetic and eager to please. I was rescued out of a shelter in Maryland, after being picked up as a stray. It's hard to believe that no one came looking for me, but here I am ready to find my new family and start my new life. SHARE, Inc. of McLean needs school supplies so that its volunteers can distribute them on Wednesdays and Saturdays in August to children who can’t otherwise afford to buy them. As those of you with school-age children know, local schools pretty much dictate what supplies need to be purchased prior to the opening date in September. In some cases, special lists are distributed outlining the requiem supplies. There are people here in McLean who can’t afford to buy the supplies and SHARE tries to help those families in this unfortunate situation by distributing these supplies from its facility at McLean Baptist Church.
