PHOTOS: McLean Winterfest 2012

The Mclean Winterfest parade was a hit with the community and good times were had by all.

The Mclean Winterfest Parade is a staple of the wide arrange of activities in the area. Celine Leary, a newcomer to the parade this year, had a few things to say about it. "This is my first time here and I love it. You look around and see all the people here and you really get a sense of community. The fact that people actually leave their houses and come together for these events is refreshing and makes me want to attend more often." Trish Butler, who is apart of the steering committee, also stated how the parade continues to get bigger and better every year. "Mclean Winterfest gets bigger and better every year. There are more entries to the parade and a good time is had by all. We had the best steering team this year - everybody chipped …

The Season of Giving: McLean Organizations Give to McLean, Area Nonprofits

Giving back to the community

Three well-known McLean organizations recently made donations to McLean and area nonprofit organizations. The Woman’s Club of McLean donated $9,600 to eight local charities and nonprofits. The recipients: McLean Project for the Arts; Share, Inc; Alternative House; Capital Hospice; Girls’ State; Fisher House; Claude Moore Colonial Farm; and the McLean Volunteer Fire Department, said a statement from Laura Sheridan. The club recently completed its 45th annual Holiday Homes Tour. The popular tour provides the sole source of funds for the club’s projects. All profits from the tour are turned back into the community in the form of many and varied service projects, said the club statement. In addition, the club makes periodic donations …

Please don't forget the Salvation Army throughout the New Year. This holiday season our D.C. command had 800 volunteers provide gifts, food and services to 6,000 needy families. But the need is severe - especially in this economy - throughout the entire year. Thank you - Diana Bork   more ›

McLean's Only Community Parade Attracts A Crowd Downtown

Winterfest Brings Community Together

Nearly 50 groups paraded down Chain Bridge Road Sunday afternoon to applause and squeals of onlookers as part of McLean's only community parade. The Bozeman family who moved to McLean 10 months ago set up their lawn chairs in front of the Langley Shopping Center for a curbside view of the hour-long Winterfest parade that included the Fairfax County Sheriffs department, the McLean High School marching band, the American Legion, Rotary, the Old Firehouse Teen Center and, of course, Santa. They were among moms, dads, grandparents, kids and friends who lined the parade route generally in front of the shopping center for the fourth annual Winterfest parade. Unrecognizable in the parade were Karen and Dan Duval, who as the Grand Marshals for the…

McLean Kicks Off the Christmas Season Thursday

Have you seen the Reindog pageant?

McLean has a sleigh-full of Christmas activities this weekend to kickoff the holiday season. The activities include the Woman’s Club of McLean Holiday House Tour on Thursday; the Crafts Fair at the McLean Community Center through the weekend; WinterFest, which includes the Friday night lighting of the downtown Christmas tree; McLean's one and only Reindog pageant Saturday and our only community parade Sunday afternoon. Curiously, WinterFest is McLean's only community-wide parade. McLean looks like a small town. Feels like a small town. But we don’t do the parades you find in small towns. No St. Patrick’s Day parade. Nothing for Memorial Day, July 4th or Veterans Day. McLean once held parades. (There are pictures.) Then as we became upscale…
