Comstock Announces Sound Wall Funding

The sound wall will be constructed in the Scotts Run community in McLean.

A new sound wall will be constructed in McLean’s Scotts Run community to protect against noise from the beltway, Del. Barbara Comstock announced this week. Comstock, R-McLean, said the section is located between Lewinsville Road and Georgetown Pike. The gap in the sound wall has left homeowners living on Scotts Run, Helga Place and Saigon Road with a considerable amount of traffic noise from the Capital Beltway, according to Comstock’s office. The Virginia Department of Transportation announced that the bidding closed on March 27, with an estimated construction cost of $3 million. So did Senator Chap Petersen vote against the transportation bill -- and for the very same reason, both legislators believed the bill unfairly taxed residents of Northern Virginia. While I would have voted for the bill, I respect both Petersen and Comstock for their views.   more ›

Commutes Could Get Longer for HOV Drivers on I-66

A ramp connecting I-66 to I-495 will close on Friday, Oct. 12.

Depending on the way you get to work, your morning commute may be getting a little bit longer starting in a few weeks. The HOV ramp connecting the eastbound lanes of Interstate 66 to the Capital Beltway will close following morning rush hour on Friday, Oct. 12 and re-open later this year as an Express Lanes ramp. A spokesman for Virginia Megaprojects explained in a press statement, "HOV-drivers affected by this new traffic pattern are urged to follow highway message signs that will be in place along I-66, approaching I-495.  Drivers should expect additional delays in this area for several weeks, and should allow extra time in their commutes." They built a wonderfull (express) two lane bridge connecting dulles access to 495 but did NADA to alleviate congestion for the main road, where all the traffic is. Why have an empty access road?   more ›

Overnight Closures of Eastbound Dulles International Airport Access Highway (DIAAH)   Dulles Corridor Metrorail construction will close the eastbound Dulles International Airport Access Highway (DIAAH) overnights next week. These closures are necessary to complete work on the aerial guideway (flyover bridge) that crosses over the DIAAH and the Dulles Toll Road. Traffic Alert: Three Northbound Lanes of Capital Beltway in Tysons Corner Closed Tonight

The Virginia Department of Transportation sent along this good news/bad news note: The Virginia Department of Transportation will restore the fourth lane along I-495 north at I-66 and open a new fifth lane from I-66 east onto I-495 north extending to Exit 47, Leesburg Pike (Route 7) by 8a.m. Saturday, May 5. Opening these lanes ahead of schedule, the 495 Express Lanes Project will have all lanes in their final alignment delivering improved traffic flow through this area. To prepare for this work, crews will close three right lanes on I-495 north starting tonight, at 9:30 p.m. until 8 a.m., Saturday, May 5.
