Frequently Asked Questions about Building the Silver Line Guideway

Guideway completed last week in a major milestone for Silver Line.

The new Silver Line celebrated a major milestone Tuesday: completion of the aerial guideway that will take the trains from East Falls Church to Reston. Here is a reprint of the Frequently Asked Questions of the project that was distributed by Dulles Metro Rail. McLean Patch is running the following verbatim and unedited. "Q. What is a guideway? Testing New Silver Line Tracks Means Late Night Train Noises

Notice to neighbors from Dulles Metro Rail.

If you're hearing train noises between the East and West Falls Church Stations in the wee hours of the morning, here's why. The Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project is testing trains on the existing Metro rails between the stations, between from 10 p.m.-6 a.m., Monday through Thursday nights, for the next two weeks.   This activity involves running trains at various speeds and safe breaking distances to test changes that were made to the existing Orange Line tracks to  tie-in the Silver Line now under construction. The Silver Line will eventually run from Loudoun County and Dulles Airport to downtown Washington. That tie-in will allow passengers from Dulles airport, Reston, McLean and Tysons Corner to  ride the train straight into Rosslyn or …

This week's traffic travails throughout McLean and Tysons Corner brought to you by the simultaneous construction of the  Express Lanes and the Metro line to Dulles. Full Closure of Westbound Interstate 66 Overnights   Dulles Corridor Metrorail construction will implement a full closure of westbound I-66, between Route 267 and Route 7, from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Friday. These closures are necessary to install acoustical barriers on the new Metrorail aerial guideway (flyover bridge) that crosses the highway. Traffic is not allowed to flow under active construction for public safety reasons. Weekend Alert: Dulles Rail Construction to Slow Orange Line

20 minute delays between East and West Falls Church

Metrorail riders using the Orange Line between the East Falls Church and West Falls Church stations this weekend should allow an additional 20 minutes of travel time.   The Dulles Metrorail Project, which is building the new Silver Line from Falls Church to Reston, is installing cables this weekend thus the delays. Starting at 10 p.m. tonight, and continuing through closing on Sunday night, , shuttle buses will replace Orange Line trains between these two stations.   Orange Line trains will operate in two sections: between Vienna and West Falls Church at regular weekend intervals, and between East Falls Church and New Carrollton at regular weekend intervals.   The last eastbound train will depart Vienna 20 minutes earlier than normal, at 2…
