Final segment of Phase I lowered into place along Dulles Access Road on Tuesday
Phase I of Metro's Silver Line project celebrated a major milestone Tuesday: completion of the construction of the aerial guideway. The aerial guideway was finished about noon Tuesday when a final section was ever so slowly lowered into place in the median of the Dulles Access Road. Applause erupted from a crowd of officials from the Metro Washington Airports Authority, Dulles Metrorail and Bechtel, who were gathered with members of the press to witness the fitting of the last segment. "The eagle has landed," said Sam Carnaggio, who has directed the project for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, as the last segment fit perfectly after the 45-minute lowering operation. Shuttle buses will operate between East and West Falls Church stations this weekend.
If you're planning on using the Metro's Orange Line in Northern Virginia this weekend, you might want to plan for a bit more travel time. Construction of the Dulles Metrorail will cause service disruptions between the East Falls Church and the West Falls Church stops starting at 10 p.m. Friday. Buses will shuttle passengers between these stations through closing on Sunday. WMATA is encouraging riders to allow 20 more minutes for travel.

Virginia Senate Finance Committee approves Howell-sponsored amendment that will boost money for Metrorail to Dulles.
The Virginia Senate Finance Committee unanimously approved on Thursday a Senate budget that contains a budget amendment offered by Sen. Janet Howell (D-Fairfax & Arlington) and Sen. Mark Herring (D-Loudoun & Fairfax). The amendment will provide $300 million dollars in additional state funds to Phase 2 of the Metrorail to Dulles Project. The amount is in addition to $150 million the state has previously committed, bringing the total state contribution for the project to $450 million. Phase 2 had been an ongoing point of contention between Dulles Toll Road users (who fear rising tolls to pay for the project), MWAA officials (who compromised on the location of an above-ground station at Dulles International Airport, and other parties. …

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors deferred until April 10 a vote on the county’s participation in Phase II of the Dulles Metrorail project after a public hearing Tuesday night. Dulles Rail has been a contentious topic since its inception, and Tuesday night was no different. More than 20 county residents voiced their support for or opposition to the $2.7 billion project during the two-hour forum. Virginia Del. Barbara Comstock (R-McLean) and former county board chairman Kate Hanley were among the speakers, about half of whom supported the project. Virginia Megaprojects has announced that the following roads in McLean will be closed between 9:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. because of the Dulles metrorail construction project. The following closures in McLean are schedule for the Interstate 495 express lanes project. Officials project rising costs in order to pay for subway from Reston to Airport
The Metropolitan Airports Authority's new projections show that one-way rates on the Dulles Toll Road could triple to $6.75 by 2018 to bring in the necessary funds to pay for Phase 2 of the Metro's Silver Line. The projections were released Wednesday at a MWAA board meeting. MWAA operates Dulles and Reagan airports as well as the toll road and is overseeing construction of Metro’s Silver Line expansion. The projections are in line with those made several years ago. There is already a 25-cent rise - the third in three years - scheduled for Jan. 1, 2013. The current rate of $2.25 might need to double next year, though officials say they could use $150 million in pledged funding from Virginia to stagger those increases over three years. The …
