Cause and Manner of Death Revealed in Lewinsville Road Crash

Cheri Cusumano of McLean died on Sept. 18 when her car swerved on Lewinsville Road, hit a tree and burst into flames.

A McLean woman who died in a single vehicle car crash on Lewinsville Road on Sept. 18 was killed by blunt trauma to the neck, trunk and extremities, the Virginia Medical Examiner's office revealed Tuesday. Cheri Cusumano, 52, swerved off Lewinsville Road during wet conditions just after noon on Sept. 18. Her 2011 Toyota Sienna hit a tree and burst into flames. The manner of her death was accidential, the medical examiner determined. Cusumano worked as a dental hygienist at her husband Joseph's dental practice, Cusumano and Stuver, in Arlington. Victim Identified in Fatal McLean Car Crash

Cheri Cusumano lost control of her minivan and hit a tree Tuesday on Lewinsville Road.

McLean resident Cheri Cusumano died Tuesday after her minivan swerved on a wet road in McLean, hit a tree and caught fire, the dental practice where she worked confirmed on Thursday. Cusumano, 52, was driving a 2011 Toyota Sienna heading eastbound on Lewinsville Road in McLean at about 12:18 p.m. Tuesday when she lost control of the car and hit a tree. The minivan caught fire. Police found Cusumano "trapped inside the charred vehicle," according to a police report. Because of the nature of the victim's burns, Fairfax County Police will not confirm her identity until the results of an autopsy are released, said Lucy Caldwell, a spokeswoman for the department. Details About Fatal Lewinsville Road Crash Released

An adult woman was killed in the accident, but police have not released her identity.

The circumstances of a single vehicle car crash on Lewinsville Road at 12:18 p.m. Tuesday have been released by Fairfax County police investigators. "Witnesses observed a 2011 Toyota Sienna heading eastbound on Lewinsville Road when the driver apparently lost control just prior to Swinks Mill Road. The Toyota struck a tree and rolled back onto the roadway, where it caught fire. An adult female was found deceased inside the charred vehicle," a police statement reports. A section of Lewinsville Road was closed for several hours on Tuesday as police reconstructed the accident. "It is unknown if speed, alcohol or a medical condition were factors in the crash.
