The school's expansion project includes new classrooms and improvements to the cafeteria, among other projects.
The $6 million long-awaited expansion of Spring Hill Elementary School on Lewinsville Road has progressed through the summer. The project includes adding 12 new classrooms, enlarging the cafeteria with a new stage, enlarging the drop-off area, and a new roof, according to John Torre, the spokesperson for Fairfax County Public Schools. The expanded drop-off area should help ease traffic jams that now clog Lewinsville Road in the morning and the afternoon. The expansion is scheduled for completion September 2013, Torre said. This project also includes a controversial new stoplight and crosswalk at the school across from the Spring Hill Recreation Center. That light is scheduled to be installed in about a month, Torre said. Spring Hill …

Seen Around McLean
The signs on the door of the store space next to Bistro Vivant in the Langley Shopping Center say PR Partners is moving in. _______________________ Some neighbors have asked about the construction equipment that recently arrived behind the former McDonald's restaurant on Elm Street. Things to know about this observance and where to celebrate.
Many of McLean's Muslim neighbors begin their most important religious observance today: Ramadan. Ramadan is the Islamic holy month of fasting, a holiday that encompasses the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. It falls on a different day each year based on cycles of the lunar calendar. Muslims traditionally observe the holiday by fasting from dawn to sunset, without food or water, a symbol for ridding oneself of thoughts, actions and emotions that go against the religion's principles. Families gather before and after the daylight hours to share meals together. For more on Ramadan, read this story from The Huffington Post. Celebrating locally?
