Police: 'Too Early to Tell' if McLean, Idylwood Burglaries are Connected

Fairfax County Police are stepping up patrols and are asking residents to stay vigilant.

It is too early to tell whether the three burglaries Friday in Idylwood are connected to each other or if they are connected to 10 burglaries that occured the Friday before in McLean, Fairfax County Police Department officials say. In the Friday, May 10 burglaries, three homes were broken into with forced entry through windows. Forced entry was also used in the 10 burglaries on Friday, May 3.  Fairfax County Police officers from the McLean District have stepped up patrols in the area, but Officer Bud Walker said neighbors watching out for neighbors is a huge part of home safety.  Police are asking retirees and anyone else who may be at home during the day to keep an eye on their neighbors' homes. Three Burglaries Friday in Idylwood Area

Three burglaries reported Friday afternoon involved similar circumstances.

Three homes were burglarized Friday in the Idylwood neighborhood, according to Fairfax County Police reports. The three homes—on Maydan Lane, Tod Street and Virginia Lane—are within about a mile of each other. In every case, a resident reported that someone had forced entry into a home through a window and stole several items, including jewelry. All three burglaries were reported Friday afternoon. Earlier this month, 10 McLean homes were burglarized in a span of just 5.5 hours. Those burglaries were also on a Friday and involved forced entry.   There is no information available about whether these incidents are connected to each other or if they are connected to that series of 10 burglaries that all occured Friday, May 3 in McLean. Woman Robbed at Gunpoint at Bank ATM in McLean

A man brandishing a handgun demanded cash and fled on foot.

A 27-year-old woman was robbed by a masked, armed man inside the entryway of a local bank Tuesday evening, according to Fairfax County Police Department officials.  The woman was withdrawing money from a bank in the 8300 block of Greensboro Drive in McLean shortly after 9 p.m. Tuesday "when a man entered, brandished a handgun and demanded cash," according to a report from police. "The victim complied. The suspect took the cash and fled on foot toward International Drive." Police released this description of the suspect: "5 feet, 8 inches to 6 feet tall, 180 to 200 pounds with a muscular build. The victim was unable to determine his race. 10 Burglaries in Less Than 6 Hours in McLean

Police are looking for a man and a woman in a truck or white El Camino who took items from 10 residences in McLean Friday.
