In three shifts over an eight-hour period on Saturday, November 10, 2012, more than 900 enthusiastic volunteers from Northern Virginia packaged 250,000 meals to help eradicate hunger worldwide. 1,200 volunteers spend glorious autumn day helping others
More than 1,200 volunteers took over the church hall at Redeemer Lutheran and spent Saturday packing 200,000 meals to Stop Hunger Now to help feed those in need around the world The gathering looked like controller chaos: There were kids, high school students, parents, adults and grandparents. Rock music blared to help morale. The hall was a rainbow of hairnets. Numbers of finished meals were flashed on the wall so folks could track their progress. The volunteers included the McLean High School football team, brought by principal Dr. Deborah Jackson, a leading member of McLean Rotary, the Mormon Church, the McLean chapter of the American Legion, Temple Rodef Shalom, Boone and Sons Jewelers, the BoyScouts, Vinson Hall and church members …

Whiz Kids is a new feature that highlights the accomplishments of local kids.
Name: Bijan Peters School: McLean High School Accomplishment (s): Key to Awesomeness: Bijan was introduced by McLean High principal Deborah Jackson as someone very likely to become President of the United States. Crosstown rivals Langley High School and McLean High School overcame their bitter sports rivalry and worked together in this project with amazing results. Bijan humbly says that many people helped including many veterans, the Rotary Club, local churches and community groups as well as local Boy and Girl Scouts troops. Many people gently tried to warn the kids that making 100,000 preserved meals in one day was just not possible, in fact it may even be a little crazy to try. They made those 100,000 meals in 4 hours.
