Barbi Batchelder
1:14 pm on Saturday, January 26, 2013
ReplyHi Will Brady! I corrected my title to "Ice Fishing Derby Postponed"...so it should be all set. Thank you guys for watching out for everyone...what may look like 'safe ice' may not always be the case, that's for sure, as evidenced in an earlier story on Patch: http://thehaddams-killingworth.patch.com/articles/man-and-dog-rescued-from-freezing-waters-of-lake-hayward In terms of our safety....we need to watch out for each other...So...as far as I can see..."You ROCK, Sir"...and Thank You for checking the lakes and ice safety for all of us! ...Love you! ...We'll see ya next weekend on the ice....and I want some of that "Venison-Sausage" that you-all prepare out on the BBQ when you're fishin'.....and you'd better watch for me...S'il vous plaît ....?!!!

ReplyPolice in the surrounding towns of Durham, Middlefield, Middletown and Cromwell have experienced multiple burglary reports as well, involving a suspect vehicle of the same description as mentioned in the above article. I just received some encouraging news from TFC Milardo, who told me that some suspects have been identified, and the Haddam Resident Troopers' Office is currently following up on leads, in conjunction with the other local police departments.
There will also be a special "Crime Watch & Safety Meeting" tomorrow night, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the Nathan Hale-Ray High School in East Haddam tomorrow night: http://thehaddams-killingworth.patch.com/events/crime-watch-safety-meeting-east-haddam

On the article East Haddam Police Blotter: Nov. 14 - Dec. 5

Reply...I spoke with one of the committee officials, as well as the scout leader. They confirmed that, after the bottles and cans have been carefully sorted and bagged, (involving hours of work by many people) each 50-gallon bag will hold approximately $35.00 worth of returns. There is no insurance policy or claim involved, as it wouldn't be cost-effective.
Just prior to this theft, the Boy Scouts, Troop 22, had made a $500 donation to the East Haddam Food Bank, from their "operations fund". The money collected from returning these bottles and cans was intended to reimburse this account.
Any and all donations of returnable bottles and cans are always appreciated, and can be dropped off at the East Haddam Transfer Station. If anyone would like to send in a monetary donation, you can mail a check made payable to: Troop 22, PO Box 697, Moodus, CT. 06469. If you have questions or would like any information on the troop, or would be interested in becoming a scout, you may contact Scoutmaster Tony D'Addeo at 860-873-1872.

Reply...VERY Awesome photos, everyone! Barbara, I love your Woodpecker-Hummingbird, what a character, huh? It's like the Blue-Jays that like to pretend to be Hawks, with their verbal imitations...too funny!!!
How absolutely precious and BEAUTIFUL are all of these bird photos...WOW!!!
I would so LOVE to have a camera that could capture images like these!
I have to say, my favorite birds would have to be my "Yard-Clowns".....the Crows N' Ravens. Does anyone have any photos of them to share at all?
C'mon.....with Halloween just around the corner and all???
...AND... this bird-photo-contest makes me wander back to a story I wrote awhile ago, that might bring some of you a smile:

ReplyHi Hadamfan!
There is currently construction work under way for repairs to the Route 9, Exit 7 connector and also work related to a culvert on Route 154. This is very close to and in the area of Tylerville center....could this be the reason for all of the noise???
Everything's pretty quiet (at the moment) across-the-river in East Haddam..... ;-)
