On the article Comstock, Wolf, Local Leaders to Address Human Trafficking

ReplyWe are all against human trafficking, but this is another example of Barbara Comstock picking a non-controversial issue (remember Lyme disease) and ignoring meaningful discussions of state issues such as transportation, education, or women's health care. We need to hear her positions on these issues of critical importance to McLean residents.

ReplyOnce again Comstock's major accomplishment is a Lyme disease bill that the medical community rejects as ineffective. She seems to hide behind Lyme disease issues and mentions nothing of education or transportation funding which she voted against. Looks like Murphy will be a chance to get rid of Comstock and bring back attention to the real issues

On the article Virginia's Next Governor: Ken Cuccinelli, Terry McAuliffe or... ?

ReplyCuccinelli has laid down a radical agenda as describe in his newly released book. The more exposure his own words get will drive sensible Northern Virginians away from his canidacy. McAuliffe is focusing on jobs and continuring the legacy of John Warner and Tim Kaine that has made Virginia fertile ground for business.

ReplyCandidate Murphy's position on guns is right on and in step with the citizens of the 34th District. Barbara Comstock, the incumbent, marches with those who confuse the interests of the NRA (gun manufacturers) with the protections of the 2nd Amendment.

Mr. Jackson
It would be great to have the data you bring into question and the studies you desire.
I still think comparing Virginia and Texas is not useful. -

ReplyTexas is not a role model for Virginias to aspire to. See following statistics:
From fiscal years 2002 to 2006, average tuition and fees at public universities increased 61.4%. Average tuition and fees at community colleges increased 51.3%.
• From fiscal years 2002 to 2007, the Texas state budget was cut in terms of real dollar, per-student funding for universities by 19.92%; for community colleges the per-student cut was 35.29%.
• California has nine nationally recognized research institutions; New York has seven; Pennsylvania has four; while Texas, the second most populous state in the nation, has only three.
• Out of Texas’ 145 public and private higher education institutions, only one private institution, Rice University, ranked among the nation’s top 50.
• The number of students attending Texas colleges and universities increased by 23.6% from Fall 1999 to Fall 2005 with the highest growth in community and technical colleges.Source: Texas Controller of Public Accounts

Mr, Jackson- I left "semi" out of my previous reply. I apologize for the error. Thank you for the lesson on gun technologies. You make an intelligent argument for your position. This is the type of discussion we should have. We need to do a better job dealing with gun violence.

ReplyCommon sense policies like closing the gun show loop hole, background checks for every gun purchaser, and reinstating the assualt rife ban seem doable. Yes the ban was law for a number of years and is not perfect but undoubtably keeps automatic weapons out of the hands of a few unstable persons. Don't see a downside risk or 2nd amendment issue. In any event Comstock should address the issue openly

Mr. Jackson
Your comment had nothing to do with my orgininal comment on the Patch article. I know you like to lable people as bigots for taking a position that you oppose.
