Lucinda Shannon, Neighbor

I moved to Reston from Massachusetts via Arlington in 2008 because I am attracted to the founding principles, Lake Ann, the green spaces and the trees. Reston is a beautiful community and I am excited to be involved and contribute to its growth and development.

After obtaining my Masters in Public Policy and Administration in 2003 at the University of Massachusetts, I moved to the DC area to work for a national non-profit. I’ve worked on a variety of projects to support people of all ages with all kinds of abilities nationwide. For the past 6 years I’ve worked to support and build infrastructure to provide transportation for older adults through coalition and capacity building.

In my professional life I see many examples of communities that are implementing new and innovative strategies to improve life for its residents and I think, oh! Reston could do that. I want to share these ideas and opportunities with my neighbors and possibly plant some seeds. So, yes, I’m relatively new to Reston, and I may post about communities outside of Reston and even the DC metropolitan area, but I think you will find my posts thought provoking and informative. Consider my posts a breath of fresh air.
