Power Outages Continue in McLean

Some neighbors without power since Sunday

Wednesday Aug. 31: An estimated 40 McLean residents are still without power that they lost when Hurricane Irene twirled through Virginia Saturday and Sunday.

Dominion Power said Monday that all power in Northern Virginia would be restored by Tuesday.

On Tuesday the company said, "Dominion Virginia Power has completed repairs and restored electric service to all Virginia customers in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area who lost power because of Hurricane Irene.

"This area includes the counties of Arlington, Fairfax, and Prince William and the cities of Alexandria, Falls Church and Fairfax. Restoration efforts continue in other areas of Virginia.

"Any outages now shown on Dominion’s online electric outage map are not related to Hurricane Irene, but are the result of subsequent events," Dominion said in a press release.

Dominion's map says the cause of the continuing outages are "storm."

Regardless of the terminology, some neighbors are in their fourth day with no power.

Tuesday Aug. 30: McLean neighbors are hoping that Dominion Power fulfills its promise to complete power restoration to neighbors coping with darkness because of Hurricane Irene.

Some neighbors have been without power since early Sunday morning when Irene cruised through bringing heavy rain and some wind.

As of late last night, an estimated 1,200 Fairfax County customers were without power, including an estimated 300 in McLean.

Even residents of one of McLean's most exclusive addresses had no power as of late Monday night.

House of Delegate Democratic Candidate Pam Danner lives on Crest Lane, one McLean's most expensive addresses. She had no power for most of Monday.

U.S. Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) arrives today to host a fundraiser for Danner at a neighbor's house. The neighbors have a generator, Danner said.

"Maybe it is time we get one," she said in an email.

Her Republican opponent Del. Barbara Comstock, who also lives in a tony neighborhood, said, "I didn’t have power Sunday from about 4 a.m. until noon." She has power now.

"We have a generator so I stayed in touch with Dominion and VDOT throughout the weekend, as we heard from neighbors about problems in their areas," she said in an email.

She also posted helpful information for neighbors on Twitter and Facebook.

In nearby Langley Farms, another ritzy address (Hickory Hill, ex-vice president Dick Cheney), neighbors, were also still without power Tuesday.

But this a neighborhood where the generators also come on when the power goes off.

Stay tuned.
