Governor Comes to Town, McLean Rotarians Honored, Expensive Theater Seats

---Govenor Stops by McLean. . . Gov. Bob McDonnel dropped by town Tuesday and went straight to Fred Malek's house on Crest Lane (one of McLean's most expensive addresses)  to raise money for Louisiana Republican Gov. Bobby Jindal.

Why would a Louisiana governor be raising money in McLean,Va. Answer: This is where the money IS. McLean's  two zip codes are the address of some of the most generous donors and fundraisers for both Democrats and Republicans. We should be getting other  interesting visitors with the 2012 presidential election on the horizon.

Malek, who was co-chairman of John McCain’s campaign finance committee for the 2008 presidential campaign, recently headed a government reform commission for McDonnell.

---McLean Rotarians Honored. . . Two members of the Rotary Club of McLean received highly coveted international awards at the District Conference held last weekend. Long-time McLean Rotarian Bob Rosenbaum received the Rotary International (RI) Club Builder Award and the McLean Club’s World Community Service Chair Frank Peterson was honored with the RI Service Above Self Award.

---Our Neighbor the Humanitarian.  McLean resident Becca Willcox of The Capital Grille, was honored by the Fairfax Chamber Valor Scholarship Fund for her outstanding community involvement and volunteerism by presenting the 5th Annual Humanitarian Award during its Annual Reception & Live Auction last week.
 
Willcox, sales and marketing manager of The Capital Grille Tysons Corner, has volunteered for the Valor Scholarship Fund for the past five years. The Valor Scholarship Fund honors Fairfax County first responders from the Police, Sheriff’s and Fire & Rescue Departments by providing college scholarships to the children of the community’s Medal of Valor recipients.  She currently resides in McLean with her boyfriend and miniature bulldog.

---Expensive New Theater Seats. . .  The McLean Community Center board wants you to be comfortable when they replace the 425 seats in the Alden Theater for the first time in 22 years. Therefore the Capital Facilities committee voted last week to spend $16,000 more than originally budgeted bringing the total cost of the seats to $166,000. The additional money will buy comfort and longer life to the seats, they said.
