Update: McLean Addresses Still Without Power

About 50 addresses along Georgetown Pike

8pm. Saturday. About 50 McLean neighbors living around Georgetown Pike south of Spring Hill Road are still without power, according to Dominion Power.

The cause: equpment failure. Dominion Power estimates they may not have power until tomorrow.

This is the only neighborhood in McLean without power, according to Dominion Power.

Staturday Morning Update: About 70 McLean homes nearly Georgetown Pike between Spring Hill Road and the Beltway remain with power Saturday morning , according to Dominion Power.

 

More than 500 McLean addresses were without power Friday night. More than 300 of those were in the area of Georgetown Pike.

Neighbors along Chain Bridge Road near Lewinsville Park and Great Falls, the other large area with no power, were restored at about 3 am.

Friday 11:04p.m. More than 500 Dominion Electric customers in McLean are without power. More than 300 live at wealthy addresses along Georgetown Pike from Old Dominion south to Langley High School.

McLean is among nearly 30,000 customers without power. A fast-moving thunderstorm complete with ligthening  and heavy, heavy rain struck McLean about 7:45. In 15 minutes it was over, but the power for many was gone.

10:15 p.m.. All of downtown McLean has power. McLean Patch has no power so we are  now working out of J. Gilbert's Restaurant.

Earlier we sought refuge at Starbucks and met Fred Howell, another power outrage refugee who lives near Old Dominion and Georgetown Pike.

"We are at the mercy of the trees," he said.

He also criticized Dominion Power. "They need better customer service. They should have announcements that we're working on it," he said.

9:47 p.m. McLean residents are among an estimated 25,700 residents without power in Northern Virginia, a spokesman for Dominion Power said a few minutes ago.

The company has no idea what power will be restored to customers, including the more than 400 in McLean lacking power. The spokesman said the company is still accessing the extent of the outages and determining if any "critical" customers are without power.

In the meantime, the neighbors without power lighted their homes with flashlights, candles and hurricane lamps.

In McLean, nearly 300 customers  in the neighbors north of Georgetown Pike just inside the Beltway were without power. Supreme Court justices live there.

Just over 100 customers in the area along Chain Bridge Road near Great Falls road were also without power.

8:11 pm Nearly 400 McLean residents in two different areas are without power.

Nearly 300 customers along Georgetown Pike in Langley have not power. The second area is along Chain Bridge Road near Great Falls which more than 100 residents, including McLean Patch have no power.

Original Story :A thunderstorm with lightening and heavy rains has left parts of McLean with no power.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for McLean and eastern Fairfax County until 10 p.m.

The a neighborhood along Chain Bridge Road across from Lewinsville Park, neighbors heard two loud pops just as the rain started about 7:45 p.m. Then no power.
