Epilogue: Family Parts with Penny

Family Hopes to Adopt Another Dog

April 26: This is the epilogue to the story of the terrier Penny from Forest Villa Lane.

Penny's family has returned her to Homeward Trails*. "I did return darling Penny, and will get matched with a dog more suitable," said Marianne Voight-Rose.

The saga of Penny, a newly adopted golden-haired terrier, began Tuesday April 12 when she ran away from one of young owners during an early morning walk. She is a 2 yr terrier mix, about 40 lbs.

Her family put up posters (you can still see them in downtown McLean) enlisted the help of volunteers and searched for her. Penny returned home the night of April 18. She got a good meal.

The following day, she ran away again during another walk with a young owner.

Monday Night, April 19  Penny returned home to Forest Villa Lane last night. She's just fine.

Her family reports: Just came bounding in the door, with her leash trailing behind her.  . .   We are going to have to double-leash, only very strong adults walk, double-lock the gates, and any other preventative measures we can think of, because she is so spooked into flight mode by noise and movement.

Penny, a 40-pound newly adopted golden-haired Terrier, ran away from home last week. She returned late Saturday then ran away again Sunday morning.

Sunday Morning (April 18)  Update: Penny, the runaway golden-haired Terrier, came home last night. Got a good meal. Now she's gone again.

"Saturday several volunteers spent the day in the rain searching, and a humane dog trap was  baited and set up in the neighborhood," her owner Marianne Voight-Rose told us.  "But....at 8:40pm our other dog jumped up, barked, and ran to the front door. I opened it and there was Penny, smelly, happy, and hungry. "

Then about 10 this morning, Voight-Rose's daughter was walking Penny down their street. Some joggers passed them. "Penny got scared by the joggers and she bolted." Her young owner, pulled by the leash fell and was dunked in the mud, her mother said.

Penny headed by Pimmit Run Creek near Great Falls Street again --- this time with a collar and a leash.

We'll update you until Penny comes home.

UPDATE: "Penny" a golden-haired Terrier remains missing from her Forest Villa home.

Her family put up 80 posters today on Stop signs on streets near Pimmit Run Creek, said Marianne Voight-Rose, whose family adopted Penny four weeks ago.

"We had one sighting around midnight near Kirby Road, Great Falls Road and the (Pimmit Run) creek," Voight-Rose said. "She'll probably come out into a neighborhood as she gets hungrier," Voight-Rose said.

Here's the poster:

Original Story: Neighbors who live around Linway Terrace and Chesterbrook are receiving flyers this afternoon asking them to help search for Penny, a newly adopted Terrier who ran away from home this morning.

About 7 am, “My son let her out in the front yard thinking she would stay there and instead she ran out of the yard and down to the Pimmit Run creek," said Marianne Voight-Rose, who lives on Forest Villa Lane near St. John The Beloved Catholic Church.

Penny is a 40-pound golden-haired Terrier mix with a black nose who is extremely shy. She neither barks nor bites, Voight-Rose said.

The family adopted her four weeks ago from Homeward Trails.
